Currently if a pending scheduled recording episode of a series is cancelled it gets put back by the next epg update.
I would like a feature added so that the cancellation of that episode can be made permanent.

That would be useful, and I believe a necessary step towards the long awaited conflict management function (on the grounds that if you can't keep a canceled recording canceled, then you can't manage conflicts past the next EPG update either).

Didn't GBPVR do this properly? I'd certainly welcome its return (the cancel feature, not GBPVR Smile).

I am pretty sure Recurring Recordings with a unique_id already work this way.

Could be - unfortunately my EPG data doesn't contain unique id's.

oh, do they now? I haven't tested it since probably 1.5.2-something.

So if I cancel a specific recording of a show, for example to record something I'd rather have in that time slot (manual conflict management), but the same episode is available at a later date, will it also assume I don't want that ANY showing of that episode recorded?

Well my "Big Band Theory" is that once the unique_id added to recently_deleted it won't be rescheduled as a recurring recording at least for your configured time which defaults to 90 day. However assuming that you did the conflict management optimally and rescheduled the show within the EPG period that manual recording will withstand the EPG delete (the big difference from GBPVR) and still get recorded.

I am having this same problem in NPVR, where I delete individual pending episodes which then reappear as pending the next day (after an EPG update?). This was NOT an issue in GBPVR.

1. Is this the expected behavior of NPVR (perhaps a known bug or incomplete feature)?
2. If not, does anyone have ideas to help fix it?

I am using NPVR 2.6.2, recently installed on a new install of Win7 Home Premium SP1.
I was using GBPVR 1.4.7 on WinXP Home SP3.
I am using SchedulesDirect for my EPG, just like I did with GBPVR. I'm in the USA.
I am using a Hauppauge HVR-2200, just like I did with GBPVR.

Some threads have suggested a workaround by reducing the frequency of the EPG update or not doing a "full EPG update" or something like that. I can find no options to change the EPG update frequency or to not do a full update (without disabling auto-updating completely). Does either of these options exist in NPVR 2.6.2?

This is an issue for me because I get 30-40 repeat episodes and 2 new episodes in my 14-day EPG window. Since there are a few repeats I haven't seen, I want to delete only the pending repeats I've already seen, so I don't want to change my Recurring Recording rule to isolate channels, days, times, etc.

Thanks for any help. I can post logs if needed (I'll have to figure out how to get them and post them).

FYI, the following thread from 2011 describes the same problem, with conjecture by Reddwarf that sub has this fixed in the "next release", but there are no version numbers discussed.

One more note for others who might find this post later.

The NPVR wiki suggests that individually deleted pending episodes should STAY deleted, even after an EPG update. This suggests the answer to my first question is No, this is not the expected behavior.

"How to cancel season recordings
When you cancel a specific episode that is part of a series of recurring recordings from the TV Guide, it is only cancelling the specific episode, not the entire season. It remembers if you have deleted individual episodes of a season recording so that they don't get rescheduled automatically each night when it updates the EPG. Otherwise, you would have to cancel a specific episode every day until the time has passed. In order to reset a cancelled show that is part of the series of recurring recordings, you would need to update the series from the recordings menu."
