Example: I setup a manual recurring recording for '%doctor who%'. In the "Name" field I put the title "Doctor Who". At the moment the recordings may be saved under many folder names eg: "Doctor Who - New Episode" or "Doctor Who - Double Episode" or "Doctor Who - Season Finale".

It would be good if all the recordings were saved in a folder based on the "Name" field "Doctor Who".

I am guessing that there is a way to do this with one of the utilities used to move and rename files and update the database.

I am not sure if others would like this as an "out of the box" solution or tic box option perhaps ? But I thought I would mention it as I would Smile

I can try to add it in a future release. Too busy to do it right now though.

To be honest, no probably not. I think I misread your original request.

I have added the ability to tell it to record to multiple directories, but the subdirectory is always based on the show name.

You might already be able to do what you suggest using a manual recurring recording, with a name "Doctor Who" and an advanced rule like: title like "%doctor who%'

No unfortunately not. I use Manual Recordings for most shows as it is the only way to be sure that NPVR will find the show in the EPG and this is because the Titles change constantly.

As an example Doctor Who will get saved in many different directories as the titles may be
- Doctor Who series return
- Doctor Who including sneek peak of Downton Abbey
- Doctor Who including crimestoppers
- Doctor Who series final

Then when you browse your recordings folder it is much larger than it needs to be because each show is in its own folder. I end up manually moving the files into one folder to tidy it up. I am not sure if others prefer to have their shows in different folders but I am guessing there would be other folk that would like series recordings in one folder.

I am sure there are tools / scripts that will clean it up but it would be nice to have this option out of the box. Would it be a big one to code ?

I wouldn't want to dedicate any UI space to it, since it'd just confuse a lot of users (and not really needed for the bulk of users), but I could look into changing the of advanced manual recurring to describe the way I described. ie, using the recurring recording name dictate the subdirectory rather than the individual shows being scheduled from it.

Can you bump the thread in a week to remind me? (I'm out of the country at the moment)
