Getting very poor video playback quality with NPVR and not sure which decoders to use to improve it. Previously for mpg2 content my old GBPVR setup on WinXP used nVidia PureVideo and it worked great, but with my new setup (in signature) on Win7 it looks awful - choppy and not-sharp. Have installed SAF and played around a bit but not getting anywhere. Is there a good thread I can read to learn up a bit more? Or any quick advice to point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance.

I use the Microsoft DTV-DVD video decoder that comes with Win7 and am very satisfied. I use AC3 filter for audio. You might check your logs to see which decoders are actually being used when you see the poor quality. Note that my experience is from the USA with MPEG2 HD video and AC3 audio.

I dont think most people select the decoder for the "quality" as the results from ffdshow, Cyberlink or LAV are very similar. Its for other reasons such as avoiding problems "Skipping" which is why I dont use LAV. I have never been able to get the PureVideo decoders to Work. Are you using the default EVR Renderer. Does the the video play ok on other video players such as VLC or Media Player Classic.

Hi.
Did you had *unlocked* SAF installed (with PDVD12 video decoder)?

You can also get the PDVD12 decoder by downloading and installing the latest trial version of PowerDVD. The decoders will function even after the trial period is expired.

On Windows 7 I personally never install any codec packs. I find the MS Decoders work for everything I play in NPVR except I got no sound
on my HDTV recordings for which the best audio decoder I've found is LAV. I do not use the LAV video decoder though because I got no picture on HDTV recordings with that. Of course other TV standards across the world may vary on this aspect.
