Sub,

I have a 4:3 screen. When old shows that were filmed in 4:3 format are transmitted on a widescreen channel they appear as a small square in the middle of the screen with a large black border on all sides.

I am guessing this is a common issue for those of us watching digital channels on 4:3 screens.

I have tried all the aspect ratio settings but none remove the black borders - none will allow the 4:3 picture to fill my 4:3 screen.

I have added an option for "-0.17,0,1.17,1" and the 4:3 picture fills the 4:3 screen nicely. Can you add a new option, for these settings, for 4:3 screens ?

And is it possible to add the following to the live tv keymappings to make it easier to toggle aspect ratios for MCE remotes ?

<Key code="{ALT}R" command="ToggleAspectRatio"/>

I think this one could be useful for others afflicted with 4:3 screens.

I needed to add the same key mapping for video playback too. I have seen a few posts where you have reservations about using the coloured keys. Any key would be fine - being able to toggle aspect ratios is great and something I now use everyday.

I *think* aspect ratio is toggled with F7 per default.

Edit: Confirmed: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...dReference

I too have a 4:3 screen and am not satisfied with all the standard aspect ratios there are in NextPVR.
So I will try your values. But how did you come to 0.17/1.17? Trial and Error?

Edit: Tried your values, but there is too much cut away at the sides for me.

Hi Owilsky,

Yes - I arrived at these through trial and error. Note that the first number is a negative. "-0.17,0,1.17,1. Let me know what you come up with. We need something for 4:3 screens. None of the existing options will take the 4:3 image and expand it to fill a 4:3 screen.

On toggling aspect ratios: I have NPVR setup as a standalone HTPC and use an MCE Remote to operate it. Thus F7 is not an option for me. I could setup one of the utilities for remapping keys (I used HIP in the past) but it would be great if this just worked out of the box. I know that we are short on keys - I am hopping that toggling aspect ratios is considered to be important enough to justify it being allocated to one of the available keys.

If you have an unused or expendable key on the MCE remote (red, green?) you can configure it to F7 with only a registry change. Search for posts by pBS or me to learn how to do this. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it. Also, there's a tool called MCE Remote Mapper that will make it easier.

Ta. Will take a look for that when I get home. Tweaking Subs Keymap file works nicely for this scenario. But there are times where it would be nice to be able to map MCE keys to keys other than those supported by an MCE remote.

Sub, Can you update the aspect ratio settings for centre cut to fill a 4:3 screen ? And consider adding a key mapping to toggle aspect ratio on mce remotes. I have tweaked my config files but it would be good if this worked out of the box.
