I have an intermittent problem when I try to play recordings or watch live TV through nPVR. I get the following dialog box when this problem occurs. I have never found a way to fix it except rebooting. It always works if the computer is freshly rebooted...the problem only comes up after the computer has been doing other things. Anyone have suggestions as to what is causing the problem and how I might fix it? Logs are attached as is the full text from the dialog box "details" section.

thanks!

Do you know approximately when it happened so can try to work out what was going on around that time in npvr.log?

Do you see/hear and audio/video before this happen? ie is it before playback starts, just after it starts, or somewhere in the middle of playback.

Playback never starts...as soon as I hit play or watch, there may be a short pause but the dialog box pops up before any screen changes occurs (nPVR still has the recordings or TV listing view in the background. I intentionally backed up old logs last night so I would have a cleaner log the next time this occurred. It happened around 11:15-11:25am today (9/22/2012). I tried to watch live tv, then tried to play a recording (both produced the error), then I zipped the logs and started this thread. Let me know if you need any other info.

I cant see the cause in the log or config, but the attached patch adds a splattering of logging in the function where the problem is occuring.

Install this patch, reproduce the problem, then post the logs again and hopefully I'll be able to identify the cause.

Ok...here you go. I copied the dll file to the nPVR directory. I also copied my logs to a backup folder to start clean. After the dll was in place, I started nPVR at 12:53pm. At 12:54pm I tried to play 2 recordings...both produced the error. At 12:55pm I tried to watch two live TV shows, again both failed. Here are the logs related to all of this. Let me know if I can provide any other info to help.

It looks like the EVR renderer on your machine is misbehaving and not returning the IMFVideoDisplayControl, so the first call to use it fails. I've not seen any other reports of this.

The attached patch should handle it gracefully so you dont get a crash, but it's likely the aspect ratio of video will be wrong (since the app couldn't get the EVR interface it needed to control the aspect ratio). I'm not really sure what you'd have to get your EVR renderer working correctly. Worse case you might need to reinstall Windows or switch to a different video renderer.

Thanks Sub! does the EVE renderer have anything to do with video drivers or is it purely Windows software (i.e., would it help to reinstall the video drivers)?
