State of Netflix + NPVR?

So, I noticed that NPVR (or I should state the prior version) had a plugin/add-in that would allow netflix streaming -- until Netflix redid the API a bit over a year ago...

Is it safe to assume the combo of NPVR + Netflix is no longer at this point without a fair amount of effort to re-do things to work not only with the updated Netflix API but also NPVR..? Just curious..

It's on my todo list to look into it again but it's not really high priority for me at this point. The Netflix Viewer app is fairly well integrated and feature rich so my plugin wasn't quite as necessary anymore.

whurlston is referring to this: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...lix-Viewer

you just set it up in NPVR->Settings->plugins as an External Task. It looks and operates almost like a plugin.

@whurlston: as much as I do appreciate the Netflix Viewer app, and use it frequently, I did very much like your plugin when it worked, and would very much welcome it's return.

Thanks guys.. Amusing that it's over at the SageTV site.. (what was our primary TV s/w until about two weeks ago when the server died).. Anyway, thanks for the pointer, but it'd be cool to have a built-in variant as Johnson indicated but time is time and there are always other things to do! :-)

dhgb256 is an active member of the forum here as well as over at SageTV. He has a thread here at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...lix-Viewer

I do want to revive my project but I will probably hand off playback to dhgb256 since I have to launch an external player anyway (it was so much nicer before they moved to Silverlight). Browsing would be done within NextPVR as it previously was.

I just can't give a timeframe on when. If another developer were interested in picking it up before I get to it, I could assist though.

Cool.. So, in terms of resurrecting the plugin, it sounds like at least the following are on the list of to-do's for it :

  1. Add (if needed) code to fire-up dhgb256's external viewer
  2. Update code as needed to allow catalog browsing from within the plugin

Is it safe to assume it's written in C# & .NET (based on what I can find)? I might be interested in taking a whack at it if that's OK on your end.. with some hand-holding as needed of course.. I've been doing embedded C++ development for the past 15 years so I know my way around compilers and whatnot.. I might need to find a Visual Studio compiler though-- any particular version and I guess cost might be an issue.. I guess I need to look into that first..

I already had the code to browse the catalog within the plugin. It will probably need to be updated for changes in the Netflix API though.
The code to interact with the external viewer would need to be written from scratch. I had my own implementation for a player but dhgb256's is far more developed.

There may be some other changes needed to accomodate changes to the NextPVR API (and I'm a much better coder now so I could probably streamline the code much better). I haven't even looked at the old Netflix plugin code in ages so I can't even remember the state it was in when I stopped development. I would probably just start from scratch to be honest.
