Any one up for programming a Samsung TV App client to work with NextPVR....along with Plex Client (due to be released soon on 2012 Samsung TV's) one has a complete solution...

If anyone would like to create a NextPVR client App for Samsung TV's I'd be willing to pay...

Sub, any ideas if it would be possible?

I know mvallevand looked into it a bit, but never released anything.

Now that UJB has opened up NEWA I might rethink this as a viable clietn. The biggest challenges are the significant differences in features and chipsets between model years and also between the BluRay and TVs. People tend to keep these longer than PC's and extenders. The Samsung release process is also a bit too formal not allowing much experimentation.

I'd be tempted to use plex. Of course it only works for recorded content or other. You could possibly get a live tv soplution working for it, based on what has been done for xbmc.

Plex Clients are great for recorded content (but ugly names and confusing) and watching programs that are currently recording won't work (does on XBMC though)...

Peronsally I'd like to have a NextPVR client for the Samsung TV that best emulates the Windows version for most things including live TV. I have 4 TV's around the house none with an arial going to them....using a HD HomeRun next to the server in a store room....works great with NextPVR for live tv, recorded tv and then use PlexServer for all else.

Currently I am using little Zontac boxes with Widows 7 on them (and EventGhost) with just switching between the NextPVR client and Plex Client.

Whilst the above is all good having just a TV with a Plex Client and NextPVR client would achieve full WAF...and be really nice having no extra boxes, cables etc. (especially in places like bedrooms).

To achieve the above I would be willing to help pay for the dev time if anyone else is also interested? I believe we could just use NEWA, but have it modified so that is recognises that a Samsung TV was accessing it (and other devices like an LG TV or a Sony TV etc. you get the picture) and then present a web page that is easy to use with a remote control....then we could just create a short cut to a URL on the Samsung TV...I would have thought that all Smart TV's would the be able to use this?

Anyone interested?

errr just so you know say it takes a month to have anything (and it would more than likely be way more than that), say a dev charges $50 to $100 an hour, even at the low end of $50,
8 hours a day, 5 days a week, thats about $8000 to $10000.

you're willing to pay that? and it would more than likely cost a whole lot more than that....

its all good youre willing to donate some money, but errr its a lot of work for something that wouldnt get a lot of use/users (couldnt really license it out either, to small an audience).

Sure, agreed. Was more hoping lots of others with so called Smart TV's may want to have them access NEWA in a slightly easier way i.e. using a remote control with full wife blessings...I was hoping that lots of others may be interested then a donation from many "may" have made it possible.

BTW I do understand programmers and cost, I employ them for ERP systems from time to time with my business....however I can assure you one pays a lot less for decent English speaking Chinese programmers than $50 per hour...in saying that the key is it would need to be a programmer(s) with a vested interest in NextPVR in a model that is like you suggested...driven by desire, want and some donation...not some mug like me paying a huge sum of $'s for something that I guess others don't want.

Guess I'll just have to keep dreaming of the holy grail....FTA TV (via a NextPVR app), Netflix/Hulu etc., Plex Client all on the TV with no extra boxes...such a nice dream...

I hadn't even thought about charging but for sure I'd do it at PeopleSoft or SAP per diems, Seriously I know that isn't were offering, but I would have likely asked for you to contribute a reasonable Samsung BluRay player for development, my TV is used too much for serious work, but for even less about $80 you can get an Android TV stick and run XBMC for Android run nDroid or X-NEWA for scheduling and Plex for playback and get that running today. I have a 2012 SmartTV but the effort didn't seem worth it when I first looked into it Over the coming months I will look at it.

Thanks Martin, would be happy to donate the amount of $'s for you to grab a Samsung BluRay player for development when others show equal interest and you think you'll have time.

Currently my solution, litte Zontac boxes, works nicer than what you suggested....I was going to go down that route but got far nicer GUI clients with small Windows box with native Apps....with the Plex Client most likely being released for 2012 Samsung models very soon and featuring a near full Larka implementation (forgotten the spelling, basically near identical to the full Windows/OSX versions) I thought it might be a good time to start wishing for a near full NextPVR App....therefore my whinging here :-)

Let me if you think you would like to allocate time and other people reading this show your interest....I'll then be happy to swift you some $'s....thanks for your reply....

Ok, I will let you know what I will need. NextPVR doesn't currently support some of the advanced streaming technologies that the Samsung support (HLS, RTP/RTSP) and neither due pre-2012 Samsung devices, so any solution is going to less then ideal. You might also want to play more with Plex to see if it truly meets yours needs for http streaming.

I will be asking you to work with the bureaucracy at Samsung to make it an "approved" app. You might start that and find it isn't worth the bother.

Note if you have Zotac, I you should be aware that any Samsung client will be a step down in performance and features from a true NextPVR client.
