Windows 8 - Begining to wish I hadn't bothered
Tried to re-register NPVR filters (Probably doesn't need it) both from the start menu and the bat file in the NPVR Folder (Run as Administrator)
From the Command Window it looks for the filters in Windows/System32 and can't find them. (Windows 8 32 Bit)

I think I'll be wishing soon after I update that I hadn't but I am going to anyway. Did you do a fresh install or an in place upgrade?

Used the upgrade assistant to make a usb drive then booted from that deleted the existing partition on the drive and let windows do a fresh install - you then need start8 to stop yourself going insane Big Grin:eek:Big Grin

Permissions in 8 must be much tighter than Vista - I have UAC on the minimum standard setting - in Vista it was off.

Had to use elevated command prompt - CD to NPVR directory then run reregisterfilters.bat - That worked

Looks as though regsvr32 only runs in sytem32 folder unless the path is specified.

Possibly Something to look at Sub maybe needs a path in the bat file now to run.

Make the first line of RegisterFilter.bat

Code:
cd /d "%~dp0"

Then in the Start Menu Shortcut Properties - Advanced - Tick Run as Administrator

now works Cool

I take no credit or responsibility for the line of code

I am a bit confused here, maybe the issue is with the tool you are using to replace the Start menu. The old Start menu (and also shortcuts lnks) should have the Start in: property to avoid having to change directories.

Windows 8 is amazing. I love how it allows you to optimise the user interfaces of every programme to make them so much more usable!!

Look what it did to NextPVR!!

Even if you run the batch file direct from within the NPVR folder in Program Files ie double click it fails to find the filters & the command window shows it trying to run C:/Windows/System32/regsvr32 [Filtername].ax

May be part of the new fangled security -- When I added the line to the batch file I couldn't save it back to the folder had to save externally and copy across, giving the admin credentials to overwrite.

I can confirm this behavior on a fresh Win8 install (no Start8). The full path must be added to the filter's file name. I even tested using a shortcut to the batch file and had the "Start In" parameter set to the NPVR install folder.

Thankfully it's not a big deal. I don't remember the last time I had to tell someone to run ReRegisterFilters.bat.

Can some batch file expert tell me what 'cd /d "%~dp0"' does?
