So now I have two SA E940 and a SA/Cisco 4642HD to get ready for my big switch over to NPVR!!!
Here's an interesting thing that I've found. For both kinds of digital boxes you can set them to power on by either power button or number button! This to me is of great significance as this now enables a power on function rather than a power toggle! The first number button press is recognized as a button press.
Another thing that I learned was that (for my 4642HD anyway) you can request different firmwares from Rogers. Short story is that I purchased my 4642HD (used $50!!!) and it had the firmware that allowed for power on by number press but soon after Rogers updated the firmware so that it wasn't allowed anymore. I called technical support and got them to change it back!!!
Anyway, my eventual plan is to use a smart power strip - a power bar that controls the power of other outlets depending on a master component (the PC in this case). This way when the computer sleeps all three cable boxes will be off saving me lots of energy and heat buildup.
Hope this helps people!
