I have checked the forums and cannot find a solution. When I connect to the NEWA interface via a dyndns IP address, I can access the TV Guide but when I click on "View Live", the VLC player cannot play the file and reports Error!

I have read in other forums about opening ports 7647 and/or 7648 and having disabled the server's firewall and opening these ports in the router settings, I still have no success. Furthermore, the user NEWA guide mentions that these can be changed in the config along with bitrates, etc. I see no such settings in the Config. I am using NEWA 1.27 with NextPVR 2.5.9

Does anybody have any ideas how I can configure in such a way that I can view Live TV outside the LAN?

Thanks in anticipation,

Mike

I thought this was intentional behaviour, according to Sub. I can't find the forum post right now, and that may have changed, so take it for what it's worth.

Does streaming outside your LAN work if you select a specific show to watch?

No, this is not intended behaviour according to the user guide.

I'm not sure of the significance of choosing a specific show to watch. This is streaming live TV. It is fine over LAN or through VPN but for some reason, VLC's error logs show that it is blocked when streamed via WAN.

I just tested myself using an external wifi connection & coming back into my network. The web.log reports:
Code:
2012-11-20 01:54:04.277    [DEBUG][13]    Not allowing internet based streaming request from: 66.188.192.xxx
when I try to connect through the WAN. If I connect through my LAN, I get:
Code:
2012-11-20 01:56:53.662    [DEBUG][4]    Got Web Request (192.168.0.xx): /live    channel=232
....
2012-11-20 01:56:56.974    [DEBUG][4]    StartStream(10931:COOK, LIVE&D:\Buffer\live-COOK-2064-1.ts) allocated handle: 1507332
and the stream starts. I can stream specific shows just fine from work, with no VPN, just the web link. (I haven't set up mobile NEWA, though, and I see reports of streaming via mobiles over 3G and the like... Curious.) I am kinda hoping someone else chimes in soon to confirm or deny my original reply.

The suggestion to try to stream a specific show was a test to see if streaming over WAN worked OK - just troubleshooting to see if any kind of stream makes it through your router.

For the View Now you need to set the config setting in the config.xml (not config-web.xml as this stream comes from NPVR and not NEWA).....

<AllowRemoteStreaming>false</AllowRemoteStreaming>

Thank you Kayleigh for the tests and thank you UncleJohnsBand for providing the setting. I thought it was my network setting and even tried to monitor ports but to no avail. I changed the setting you provided to True and I can stream over WAN. Many, many thanks!

UncleJohnsBand,

This setting now seems to have no effect since the latest NPVR install (version 2.6.2). I have lost the ability to stream outside of LAN.

I posted the question over in the NPVR 2.6.2 support thread since this is a NPVR not a NEWA function...... we'll see what we hear back.

subs response.... do you see that in the web log?

sub Wrote:I checked the code, and it looks fine.

If the server has rejected a request because it's come from a remote address, then it'll log a ""Not allowing internet based streaming request from: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" message in the web.log. He should check if that is present in his logs.

My apologies. It is actually working fine. It will work outside my home network but not inside but I can just use http://servername while inside my home network and http://www.abcdef.co.uk outside of the home network.
