Hi,

I'm completely new to nPVR - completed a fresh install today. I've been running MediaPortal, but have been very frustrated with some aspects ot it.

Everything went well with the install, but I'm getting the above message.

The logs (attached) indicate:

2012-11-24 11:27:32.707 [ERROR][1] Unexpected socket exception calling StartStream(): System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it ::1:8968

The service is running ok, I have tried restarting it but no effect. I read it may be a firewall issue, but even completely disabling the firewall had no effect. I am currently running as a stand-alone install.

I'm not sure where to go from here. Channel scan seems to work ok, EPG seems to work ok (although I emptied it again to see if that was causing the issue).

Would really appreciate some advice!

You need to allow Nrecord.exe, NDigitalHost.exe and NextPVR.exe through the windows firewall (or any other firewall software you may have installed).

Thanks, it doesn't seem to be that. I completely disabled the firewall while testing and the error still a occurred.

I have now set each of those as exceptions in the Windows Firewall, but I'm still getting the same messages.

It sounds like firewall related, but could also be the second issue discussed here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ack-screen (see post #9)

I'm running into the same issue as well on a new Windows 8 build with a HDHomerun tuner. When trying to watch Live TV the message pops up. Channels appear fine in the HDHomerun QuickTV and channels were discovered on the NPVR channel scan. The three NPVR exes are in the firewall, and I've tried turning the firewall off. Neither resolved the error.

I also looked into editing the hosts file. The unedited file has the entries:

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

I assume the # comments those entries out, so there shouldn't be an issue with IPV6.

It also appears nrecord.exe isn't running. When I attempt to start the service I get the error message:

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Do you have an "NPVR Recording Service" on your machine? ie, bring up task Win8 manager, click "more details", then click the "Services" tab and check there.

NPVR Recording Service does not appear in the Services list.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the app then.

Yup, that worked. Sorry for the simple solution; thought I had tried that already. On a side note Win 8 is doing a horrible job at starting some apps at start-up. NTray didn't autostart after a restart so I had to create a Task Scheduler task to start ntray.exe at start up.

Just for the record, I was watching a show on my PCH-100, and a recording was starting on NextPVR, and the whole system froze up. I couldn't get the NPVR Recording Service to start up, regardless of how many times I stopped and started the service, rebooted the computer, etc. The "Unable to communicate with the recording device" error always popped up, and I wasn't able to delete recordings.

I tried to reinstall the app, and it still didn't work. I then noticed that nDroid was running in the background, stopped that, reinstalled, and everything worked fine. I'm not blaming nDroid, just stating that you need to make sure any service related to NPVR is stopped in task manager (ctrl-alt-del) before the reinstall.
