I just bought a new Dell PC with Windows 8. Since my old computer's PVR-150 is PCI and won't fit in the new Dell PCIe, I bought an HVR1800. However, Windows won't detect the new card. I've tried using all the slots, rebooting, and running HCWclear, but it's like it's not there. It doesn't show up in the device manager and when I try to install the WinTV drivers, it says there is no compatible hardware. My plan is to start with GBPVR (which I've enjoyed for the last seven years), and then experiment with NPVR.

I'm wondering if I have a defective card, or if Windows 8 isn't compatible with the HVR-1800. Is anyone using an HVR-1800 with Windows 8?

I can't say for sure but my HVR-2250 and HVR 1600 and 950Q got picked up with the install. No problems at all. I find it odd that the 1800 isn't picked up.

If your motherboard supports PCI-e 3.0, you might want to see whether can you set it to 1.0 in the bios for your PCi-e slots.

If it doesn't show up in Device Manager at all, not even as an "Uknown Device" or something like that, then either the card is bad or the PCIe slots in the computer are bad.

I'm having problems with HVR-2250 driver (wintv7_2.6c) and windows 8. The driver installs fine and picks up channels fine, but the driver seems to be unstable. I need to do more testing, but I think it is dying after the computer wakes from sleep (S3 state).

I built the computer with a Gigabyte motherboard with a Z77 southbridge. Installing the intel drivers for the southbridge (instead of using whatever Windows 8 provided) appears to have made the issue worse. I'm not sure yet how to collect logs to fully diagnose what is the issue or to file a ticket with Haupague.

When the card drivers disappear. I'm not sure if I see it in device manager. I need to investigate further.

I looked a little more. The card, driver, and filters definitely are disappearing after waking up from sleep. I can see the card in Device Manger-> Sound, video and game controllers. Put the computer to sleep then wake it up and it is gone. Anyone know where to show errors in a log or something to send to Hauppague?

Set my computer to always be awake. Didn't fix things. The card still disappears. Nothing else is going wrong with the computer so its hard to say its a hardware issue, but its possible.

Do you have any other computer to try the card in? My 2250 is pretty old and no problems here with W8. It's set to sleep mode (not hibernate) and recovers quickly.

My card is old too, it was running in my vista machine for almost 4 years without issues. I changed my bios settings on the pci buses from uefi to legacy. So far so good. But I have had it go before for a week of regular npvr use without disappearing. So it will take some more testing to see of legacy mode corrects the issue. I wrote a email to Hauppague today to ask if they have any known issues with win8 or beta drivers to try.

I had the same problem with Windows8 HVR-1200 using MediaPortal. Uninstalling MediaPortal solved the issue and WinTV and WMC is now working correctly, I wonder if NextPVR does the same thing. Looking for alternatives and haven't tried NextPVR yet.
