You can select the archive directory before recording and also move it manually afterwords, Why would you yo immediately move it when finished?

Because, last night i was getting alot of pausing during playback of a already recorded show while another show was being recorded. Once the recording was over everything was smooth again. The recording are stored on my server that has drives pooled as 1 big drive, so i think it simultanious read/write over the network is what is make the pausing happen. So what i wanted to do is change the recording location to a drive that isnt part of my pooled drive and once its done, move it to the pool so that playback isnt affected if a next show starts. So sort of a landing pad drive....

I wonder if you have another problem your hdpvr/collossus recording are maxing out at 16 Mbs so reading/writing tothem is going to be really low end nas spec http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-charts/view a server should have no problem. Unless of course you are using wifi.

im on a WHS 2011 using a software called Drivepool (pools various drives sizes together). Server is connected to a Gigabyte AP Switch with with cat6 and AP has another Cat6 to the main router but HTPC with Colossus is connected to a ethernet over powerline to the router with a cat5 cable.
i attached a mediainfo file of one of my recordings. I think its the Drivepool that isnt playing nice with the recording and playing a file from same location. Dont think its really optimized for that. Thats why i have a separate drive that does all my heavy lifting (download, extraction of nzb files) and only move completed files to pool and read from pool. I dont usually do any big read/write task or program installation/execution from pool because its more for storage and reading then anything else. This is why i was wondering about the archiving after recording. I could fix something up with some other 3rd party program but then that would mess up NPVR since it wouldnt know where the recording is anymore.

The powerline could be the weak link, that file isn't even 9 Mbs I'd record to a local drive watch from the local drive and then delete or archive manually if you want to keep it or delegate for later viewing using the archive option in NextPVR or X-NEWA when things are quieter. The copy runs as a background task from the NextPVR server but it doesn't throttle bandwidth, so it could interfere even more.

i will try doing a local recording to see the difference

The bitrate would be controlled by the quality settings; changing recording to a local drive wouldn't change the bitrate. What Martin is I believe telling you to try is to record a show to the local drive while watching another show from the local drive, to see if you get the same problems you had when doing everything to/from network drivepool drive.

Ok, but the quality i selected was Best...i guess i would have to tweak the config.xml to get it higher. Im pretty sure i will not get the momentary pause in while playing the file from X-Newa in xbmc when its playing and recording local...especially since its a SSD in my HTPC
