Computer is running windows 8, has 2 hvr-1600 installed, able to scan and watch tv using media center & instaTV.

I've tried scanning all sources, qam, atsc, analog using all settings, disabled windows firewall, closed all not needed services. Will attach log

What is plugged into the tuner card? QAM is for cable, ATSC is for over-the-air (OTA) from antenna and analog is for composite (or something) from a set top box.

The logs don't seem to include an ATSC scan.

I have a cable line running to the cards cable jacks (WoW northeast Ohio is my provider). I might have deleted the log before I started the scan agian, I can do another atsc scan if you'd like

I'm on the wrong continent to be much help with US cable ... From what I have read, I would expect it to be digital and QAM but that is the sum total of my expertise. Someone more useful than me will be along soon.

The jacks that they're connected to has no problem picking up channels in media center, which is why I've been beating my head against the desk trying to figure out why it's not working in nextpvr. Does the log file look like everything is how it should be?

The log has records for each frequency saying
Quote:2013-02-01 03:20:08.137 [DEBUG][1] locked=0, present=0, strength=41000, quality=0 (took 218ms to check)
The Locked, Present and Quality=0 means that NextPVR is not finding anything on that frequency. I can't say why that might be. I have read that MCE can play copy restricted channels that NextPVR cannot play but my understanding is that a scan by NextPVR should find these channels.

Is the cable plugged into "TV In" or "Ant In"? If it is plugged into "TV In", you need to scan for analog channels. To scan for QAM channels, you need to plug the cable into "Ant In". You can plug them into both and scan for both as well.

The HVR-1600 is a clear QAM tuner so nothing that can be viewed on the digital tuner will be encrypted.

EddieW,

Have you installed all of the nPVR pre-requisites, especially the Hauppauge SoftPVR components? Without all of the pre-reqs, you might get this problem. I just completed a similar installation a week ago, but I was using Windows 7 Ultimate. I too am a United States user. I have two HVR-1600 cards that pick up lots of QAM channels, and the full complement of TWC analog channels in the range from channel 2-98. If you have a standard cable signal coming out of the wall that is split 4 ways going directly into your tuner cards, signal strength can be a big issue with nPVR channel scanning. Whenever I do a new nPVR build, the first thing I do is take a single un-split signal coming directly out of the wall and verify that I can scan either the QAM or Analog channels, that way it takes signal strength out of the equation as a possible problem. I use an RCA signal boosting splitter for all of my nPVR installations.

Can you tell which tuner WMC is using? Are you sure it isn't analog?
