I bought an HDHR Dual and HDHR Prime nearly 3 months ago hoping to be able to replace most of our primary DVRs with a HTPC. So far, the live buffer issue is the primary barrier preventing me from doing so.
In fact, when my wife asked for time-shifting in the bedroom (where I never watch, but she watches while getting ready for the day and for the night), instead of putting a media extender in there, I felt I had little choice other than to buy her another TiVo (Premiere) to compliment our other two TiVoHDs. It all came down to ease-of-use, and saving the buffer with the remainder of a program played a big role in the decision.
Being that it sounds so challenging to implement, I wonder how STBs seem to do it so well (TiVo actually does it with BOTH tuners at the same time).
