I have downloaded and installed NextPVR. I connected a DVB-T stick and scanned for channels which I found. I can record channels but cannot watch them. I get a message 'Unable to find available capture device' which is a bit silly as I can record channels. What have I done wrong?

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the npvr.log and nrecord.log and we'll take a look.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Funny thing, when I turned the computer on this morning the problem had disappeared. Must have needed a reboot.

However there is a new problem. The picture is jerky and doesn't seem to update the screen more than once a second or so. I also have Blaze TV which shows a perfect picture, but NextPVR doesn't.

Any ideas? My video decoder is the Ulead MPEG Video Decoder, probably because Ulead VideoStudio SE DVD came with my DVB-T stick. I am running Windows XP and I have two DVB-T sticks of which only one is connected.

I have included all logs.

I'd say this video decoder is likely to be a factor in both problems. I've not seen other users using this decoder. As a first step I'd try moving to a different decoder.

Decoders that work for most people are LAV video and audio decoders. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191

I, and many others use SAF. Send a forum private message to Hoborg to get the "unlocked" version (SAF includes LAV). http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post414049

Good Luck.

Thanks guys.

I installed SAF as directed and set up decoders as per link. SD TV still jerky and slow in refreshing. HD TV does not show a picture although audio is fine. On changing channels NPVR freezes. Out of the frying pan I think.

One again Blaze vers 6.0 works fine in both SD and HD.

Must admit I kept K-Lite Codecs as I need them to run MPEG Streamclip which I use often.

Do you want more logs?

Did you try other renderers. EVR and your card on your XP system might not be getting along. I use the K-Lite Codec pack myself so you shouldn't have problems with it with standard mpeg2video. I am not sure which mpeg2 option you are using but maybe try libavcodec. Also it is possible that your card doen't support h/w deinterlacing so if you have that on as an option in ffdsow, turn it off

Are we sure that this is a decoder thing? What happens when you record a SD show and record a HD show and play each using, first LAV Video and Audio decoders and then play each recording using Cyberlink Video decoders?

I'd try making a recording, and playing it in NextPVR to see if it's jerky, and then playing it in an external player like VLC to see if it is still jerky. This will help determine if it's a capture or playback issue.

Sorry, been away for a few days. I've already done a record and playback using the Ulead driver. The original picture was jerky and did not refresh nearly quick enough - about once per second. The playback through media player classic was the same.

I use ffshow drivers with Blaze V6 and live TV and playback of recording is perfect. The SAF-PAV drivers seemed to cause problems like freezing up on changing channels and generally slowing menu operations down significantly. Also did not give a picture on HD. I uninstalled them and reverted to the Ulead drivers which at least give a HD picture and don't cause freezing. However, no matter what drivers I use, the picture is still jerky and unwatchable. I would have blamed the antenna connection except for Blaze which seems to be problem free with the same DVB-T stick and antenna connection. I have tried all renderers that are available in the setup menu and none gives a better result. I haven't tried recording HD with the SAF drivers, mainly because I don't get a picture, just audio and I figured that would be what was recorded.

I used to be a great fan of NextPVR with my old DVB-T stick and an older version of the program, but now I don't know what to do to even get a watchable picture. I am running Windows XP SP3 and the TV stick is a Realtek DTV device. I particularly want to keep using this stick because it also hauls in DAB radio which Blaze handles perfectly.
