The sound if good but the video remains a gray color. I tried all the default decoders, then tried LAV and FFDShow ones but no results. Could anyone shed some light on my situation? Here are my logs.

It seems like you are trying to use the MadVr renderer, it does not work very well. Use EVR if you are on W7 or higher, VMR (or EVR) if you are on XP.

Looks like you're trying to watch analog cable channels. Lack of color might indicate weak signal (maybe too many splitters). Assume you followed the Wiki http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ugeSoftPVR. EVR renderer is also recommended for Vista. Unless you're running Windows 8, you can use the Microsoft decoder for MPEG 2 video. Your Hauppauge card should have ATSC/QAM tuners on its other coaxial jack.

Never thought about the coaxial jack, I was trying from the S video jack. That could be why I am getting sound but no picture other than the color gray. Maybe the coaxial will help me get a live feed from my tv.

Your TV should receive a feed from your PC, not the other way around. Your PC appears to have a Hauppauge WinTV 885 tuner card. I was referring to its INPUT jacks. That's where your cable or antenna should be connected. S-video output to TV might be sufficient for standard-definition channels (but I haven't tried it personally). However, you should definitely use HDMI (or DVI-HDMI adapter cable) to send HD signals to an HDTV.

Wait, It's supposed to be a hauppauge HVR 1250 hybrid. So I can't receive signals from my tv then?

Probably not. Have you seen anything to suggest that your TV outputs any kind of signal or data? In the TV user manual perhaps? The various ports and connectors on a TV are usually there to receive signals or data for display by the TV.

I would expect that you would need to attach the coax cable from your antenna or the cable TV wall socket to your HVR-1250. If you need a set-top-box to receive cable TV, you might be able to connect the STB to the 1250 via s-video.

Well, you can certainly receive audio signals from the TV, which I suppose was the correct interpretation of your problem and logs; but its only video output is the screen. If you wanted to watch NPVR recordings on the TV, then you need a configuration more like Graham and I have suggested. If not, a good monitor and PC speakers will suffice. These days, a cable box is usually only needed to receive encrypted premium channels that you might subscribe to. I see your HVR-1250 has a single coaxial jack for all tuners (analog, ATSC and QAM). Try it! (Or are you actually on satellite?)
