Transcoding live tv?

I'm hoping to jump ship and move to NPVR at the next release and would like to use the live tv on all of my clients using the XBMC plugin created by Sub.

The problem is I have some low powered devices (in the kitchen etc) that can run XBMC / SD Video fine, but cannot handle HD video - I wondered if there is any way of specifying transcoding of any HD channels to 480p at the tv server so that I can stream then OK to my lower powered clients?

I would only need this transcoding to occur for certain clients, as my main TV units are HD capable - is this something I can achieve with NPVR ?

The X-NEWA addon for XBMC does allow server transcoded playback of live tv.

Do you have any plans to make it a 'proper' PVR addon? (ie. using the PVR framework in XBMC, instead of a python script)

Originally yes, but when sub announced he was working on a PVR addon, I focused on what the PVR framework doesn't provide, which is a lot.
