Hi all,

I've got 2 directv hd boxes in 1 room. I currently have one of those boxes feeding a Colossus card via HDMI and using NPVR against it. The Hauppauge IR blaster changes the channel. All works fine.

If I were to put a second Colossus card into the same PC and have it fed from the other directv box, would that work? I'm especially confused about how the IR blaster(s) would work.

BTW, I do have access to a USB-UIRT if that piece of equipment is necessary.

Unfortunately the Hauppauge IR system only supports a single blaster. You'd need top use a different blaster for the second device, like your USB-UIRT.

Hi sub,

Yeah I figured the blaster would be a problem. Assuming I could figure out how to get 1 of the colossus cards to change the channel on one of the directv boxes using the usbuirt, (and then continue to use the hauppauge ir on the other card and on the other directv box), would npvr be able to sort out recording conflicts and watch one channel while recording another?

Hi rbmgee, here's an old thread discussing channel changing with two or more Colossus cards: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...l-properly

Hi Zeb,

Thanks for the link. I had come across that thread in my searching. If I'm not mistaken, that thread deals with changing channels w/ 2 cards. To tell the truth, it looked pretty confusing to me. I think I can set up channel changes using a Hauppauge IR blaster for 1 and the usbuirt (which I already have) for the other.

My question at this point is to understand if NPVR is capable, with that IR setup, to be able to sort out recording conflicts and enable watch one and record another. For instance, if one of the setups is recording USA network and then I choose to watch CNN live, is NPVR smart enough to know that USA is recording on one box via one of the blasters (ie, Hauppauge) and to therefore use the other card/directv box/usbuirt to tune to CNN? I assume it can bit I just want to make sure before I spring for another Colossus.

Yes. You can different or same channels on each device, as well as different or same ir setup for each.

Hey sub,

I don't suppose you've taken a look at sorting out the issues with back-to-back recordings with pre- and post-roll on one Colossus card when recording from the same channel, as discussed in this thread (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...Colossus)?

This is still a pain for me, since the only shows I really care to record with any frequency seem to be of exactly this scheduling/recording format. I suffer mostly in silence because otherwise NextPVR is great, and because it's still very impressive that this is freeware written by one guy!
