Setting up NPVR for first time. Have used MCE for years but changed to OTA from cable but MCE doesn"t like Canada for a number of things.
I'm at the point where on Live TV I have video but no audio. I've read through some previous posts on this type of issue. I downloaded Windows 7 Codec Pack but it didn"t work. I uninstalled it. I downloaded AC3filter but no change.
I have selected AC3Filter for AC3 Audio in the Decoders tab.
I require some clear and simple direction since I'm not at your communities level of coding. I've got this feeling my selections on various settings aren't set correctly. I will try and monitor this post as much as possible, but have storm damage to deal with at home too.
My kudos to the developers of this program. I'm looking forward to using it.

Posting your logs would be helpful. Just zip the entire logs folder and attach to a post. Until then, set audio renderer to default and then AC3 filter should work. Many in North America use it. Video renderer should be set to EVR and video decoder to MS DTV-DVD decoder. You should not need any codec packs for North American OTA digital TV. The video is MPEG2 and the audio is MPEG1 or AC3. I think AC3 filter can be used for MPEG1 as well.

If you go into windows control panel -> View By: small icons -> Sound, what is selected as default audio output? (the one with a gren mark). If you have speakers connected then speakers should be default. If you have a tv set connected bu HDMI the HDMI should be default.

Realtek HDMI Output (ATI HDMI Audio) is set as default.

And do you have an audio capable device connected to the HDMI output? Where do you expect the audio?

HDMI output connected to TV (Panasonic TC-42GT25) Just now checking Control panel> sounds, I saw while Live TV on that the nPVR volume mixer was set to full low. Increasing it to the same level as the others (Device, and Applications) did nothing. Not even hearing a system "sound" after adjustment like the other two do. After reboot still no audio.

Hi davefw, NPVR logs look fine to me. I think Reddwarf is on the right track: You probably need a little Realtek support. Is HDMI audio going to TV speakers or to a digital sound system? Either way, you are probably outputting an incompatible audio format. If there's a Realtek icon on your taskbar (handy for volume control), right-click on it and select "Playback Devices." (I'm running Realtek under Vista so there might be differences; of course you can also get there via Control Panel.) Click on "Realtek HDMI Output" to select it, then click "Properties" and open the "Supported Formats" tab. For TV speakers, you might need to uncheck every "Encoded formats" box after first testing them one at a time. Under "Sample Rates" check the boxes for 44.1 kHz and 48.0 kHz. They should test successfully.

Use the AMD HDMI driver included with Catalyst instead of the Realtek driver.

Edit: ... if Zeb's instructions don't produce audio for you.

I should've mentioned that I have an Intel processor and Hauppauge tuner and don't know a thing about ATI HDMI Audio. However I have used Realtek HDMI Output to connect my PC to a Sharp HDTV using its built-in speakers, and that particular TV would not accept Dolby Digital for that purpose. (The TV has Digital Audio Out, so Dolby Digital presumably could've been passed through to a sound system.) Other TVs might be different, which is why I would suggest using the "Test" button on the "Supported Formats" tab to see if you can get a test tone on the TV.

I'm somewhat perplexed to read that you're hearing systems sound for other applications but not NextPVR. Are you sure the tuner model in your first post is correct? I couldn't find any information on HVR-1225 but it's probably similar to the 1250. In that case, the Hauppauge driver for WMC might not be the best driver for NPVR.
