According to the wiki page

Quote:Please note: The following bat files are configured for installing from WinTV7 v2.8a. For other versions of WinTV7 the bat file will need editing (in notepad) to change the version number of WinTV7 that has been downloaded.

But both the bat files still say 2.2d - latest haupauge from that linked page is 2.8a

I don't need it myself but it is causing confusion to new users.

Additionally - wouldn't it be better to rewrite the bat file and wiki page so that the installer and bat are placed in a folder in the root of C to run, rather than in program files - for UAC reasons? Especially with Windows 8
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I updated the wiki to point to 2.8a but I considered it a pain to download the batch files, to update them, since both points are addressed on the wiki page, I didn't consider it essential. Maybe more emphasis is required or perhaps a wiki contributor more concerned that I am, could update the batch files.

Personally I feel the real problem in some recent posts break down into users not installing the software that comes with their devices to make sure analog gives them what they want. A few Hauppauge users didn't bother installing WinTV7 which negates the need for SoftPVR and is also sub's preference and this needs to be reenforced. In another, a user couldn't get his card "found" with original software or WMC, what should he expect with SoftPVR?

Sometimes Martin and I lock swords. But not always Big Grin

And I would like to think rarer than some may think reading back through years of posts but mainly it is always due to his high brain function and speed with which he works being far faster than mine.

This would be a definite case of me in open arms to Martin.

I totally agree with him.

Historically the SoftPVR section of the wiki was a problem from the start.

I believe I can speak on behalf of sub that he was sailing pretty close to the wind allowing people that had a Hauppauge card find a way to access the software if they happened to have lost the original disc anyway. I actually created an automatic downloader that did the whole thing but this was a definite no-no so I never published it and before anyone asks no it is probably lost in the realms of computer rebuilds.

If you search back many many threads ago, with help, I came up with a bat solution that took out the need for a specific v2 build of SoftPVR but I could not confirm it would work with a 64 bit install before a little person dropped out of my wife! That took a load of time away from me doing wiki stuff.

I would never expect Martin to spend his time doing nitty gritty wiki stuff and @ Lao Pan I would not expect you to either seeing how much other stuff you do.

But yes I think that there are some real parts of the wiki that could do with some assistance. The admins and old-hats can only guide. Fresh meat just does not seem to be available Wink

cheers

here's my little contribution to the cause, would be doing more but i just can't use npvr still...[major pausing/skipping issues on all my machines]
keeping fingers crossed new dotnet4 one will work...Smile [any way i could get a preview? i'm still on pvrx2]

download this batch file that has some things fixed in it..
now it detects actual npvr dir, no matter where it is, from registry...
also runs ONLY the NEWEST file that starts with "wintv7_cd_" in the dir..[by filedate]
also registers filters silently, with feedback and pause only if errors occur..
Big GrinBig Grin

darn website disappeared while i was uploading my batch file..here it is now..
also 32/64 bit aware...no need for 2 batch files anymore...Wink
shouldn't need editing for quite a while..

please let me know if any problems...

It certainly looks like analogue is far from dead and possibly growing with the need for STB's as digital signals are increasingly encrypted.

here's an update to my file 2 posts up, added check for admin...

please let me know if it runs ok on 64 bit as i'm moving and don't have my 64bit machine setup yet..

the tricks used in this batch should work from xp thru win8..Smile

oh yea, as long as the batch file and download are in same dir and executable, it doesn't matter where you start it from, it will still put temp stuff in npvr's softpvr dir so result is same...

has anyone tried my batch on a 64bit machine?
i made the necessary changes for 64 bit as i saw in the 64bit batch, and made them only run if 64bit is detected..

i would like to replace the one on wiki but i can't figure out how to edit anymore...lol
[i used to have access in pvrx2 days] maybe i'm just not seeing the edit links?

PM sent. The new wiki was created during the summer of 2010, no accounts were migrated.
