I'm trying to get this set up for the first time. I'm using the Hauppauge 950q, Windows 8,with basic cable. The channels were found but I think it is just decoders that I'm having trouble with.
When I search I find people having problems with audio but I'm not getting anything. When I click live tv I get the massage "Unable to communicate with recording services".
I'm following the Life-hacker guide for XBMC. http://lifehacker.com/5981757/how-to-wat...dia-center

Thank you!

Have you looked at the sticky thread?

Thank you.
I looked at that but "Decoders, select the audio and video decoders you want NextPVR to use." through me off. Does this mean that any decoder works but find one that I like the most? I tried all of them from this from thread "SAF6 - Stand Alone Filters v.6".

Does anyone have the same setup as I do? What did you use?

TroyDe Wrote:"Unable to communicate with recording services".

I think the above is usually a clue that a firewall is getting in the way (npvr client and server talk pseudo-networked).
Also I guess the previous pointer to the sticky thread was aimed at post #2 where the request for zipping and attaching logs is needed to help pin down problems.

all the logs, not just the one file. .zip up the whole logs folder.

if that's really all you have then something is seriously wrong. You have no logs for the recording service (NRecord), yet the installer starts the recording service so you ought to have something. Did you install .NET 2 and VC++ runtime? Does NPVR Recording Service appear in your services list? What happens if you start it manually?

I'm going back to see if I installed all the programs.
NET Runtime does't install. It says it's an incompatible program
Windows installer 3.1 says "Not enough storage is available to process this command." I don't know what this means. I have 163GB's free my harddrive
Direct X installed correctly
Visual C++ installed correctly
I have windows media player with windows 8. I think this is up to date.

The prerequisites say "Windows Installer 3.1 or later." You should definitely have Windows Installer, so don't try to install 3.1. Microsoft .NET 2.0 on the other hand is essential for NextPVR version 2.6.2. I don't recall anyone else saying "it's an incompatible program," and we have many Windows 8 users. Maybe reboot and try again. However I should mention that the soon-to-be-released new version of NextPVR will move to .NET 4.0, which is very likely on your system already.
