This problem has nothing to do with NPVR but I'm stumped (I hear the laughing!)
My ISP told me a very old email account (we don't use) was hacked and sending out spam so they blocked my account. They know its not me because the same thing happened to dozen of old, unused email addresses. I deleted that email address and they cleared my account. Just hours later, one of my systems can't connect to the internet or the network. I tried other cables, other ports in the router, release and renew and a few other things and while it pops that it's connected every now and then, it's only for a second or two.
I was thinking it was my onboard NIC but I did a ping 127.0.0.1 and it came back fine and ipconfig /all shows an IP address for that adaptor. So, how can I tell if it's the NIC?

I have no external NIC's to try nor space to add one but I may just get a cheap, USB Ethernet Adaptor and try it out but I was curious if the hardware brains here had any ideas. Not that it matters but this box is 3 1/2 years old and is on and connected almost 18 hours a day.

NICs do go bad from time to time, but it's the cable more often. Also, pinging localhost (127.0.0.1) only tells you your local network stack is functioning (more or less), nothing goes out on the wire. You'll want to ping your router, the IP of which is shown in that ipconfig /all output (listed as "default gateway" I believe).

Thanks, I did ping the router and 9 out of 10 times, it came back as unreachable. The fact that it comes and goes makes me think its the NIC.

I would definitely try replacing the wire first. Also, I've seen dust on a motherboard do some funky things to the network connections.

I've also seen the drivers cause this type of issue.
Uninstall the device, and reinstall and see if it helps (and check for new drivers if you haven't done that already)

FYI - if you are online, you can ping 4.2.2.2 & it will reply. If you can't get a reply when you ping 4.2.2.2, you aren't on the internet.

It obviously was my NIC. Call my ISP and they checked and it wasn't on there end. Used the same cable into my laptop...worked fine. Purchased a USB Ethernet Adapter and I'm back on.
Case closed.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Crap, 3 hours of joy and the same thing happens with the USB Adapter. I can use the USB adapter AND the same cable on other computers and they work fine. Guess my system has more gremlins than I thought.

It's probably worth resetting your TCP/IP stack:
