Could someone explain XBMC's Genre feature and how it ties into NPVR? I've seen bits and pieces in threads here (and over at the XBMC forums) but not a real what to do.

I've messed around with it - what I think was the 1.8.5 version of the NextPVR plugin on the Margo build of Frodo months ago. Recently, using Martin's version with Gotham while testing it from another thread here. I never got it to work.

My Genre works on NPVR.
My Genre works on XNEWA.

I've gathered, I think, the xbmc-genre-translation.xml needs to be placed in the "XMBC data directory", but I'm not sure exactly where that would be.

Loose in the .../AppData/Roaming/XBMC directory?

...XBMC/userdata/addon_data/pvr.nextpvr?

Somewhere else?

I've blindly tried to guess, and either it isn't working or I'm just dropping it in the wrong place.

I've attached my xbmc-genre-translation.xml in case anyone wanted to take a look at that for something broken.

Thanks!

You need 12.3, sub's custom 1.65 for Windows Frodo or my 1.6.5 compile for Gotham for the translation file to be effectively used.

Got that (yours). I'm testing Gotham on a non-critical machine. I still don't know where to put the translation file as mentioned above - or is it just supposed to automagically work without manually putting that file somewhere?

The file I uploaded will only work in North America with Schedules Direct or maybe mc2xml data. If your Pakistan EPG doesn't follow the DVB standards that sub distributes you need to modify the xbmc-genres.xml file to map your genres to the limited DVB set.

It generally comes down what EPG you're using. The default install should handle the genre for people using the DVB EPG (which is what XBMC designed it's genre support around). If you're in North America using Schedules Direct, then Martins xbmc-genres.xml file above should get it going. If you're using any other epg, then you'll need to edit xbmc-genres.xml to match whatever genre strings are used in your country.

Kodi Helix
Schedules Direct

Hi Martin

Your file is in my user directory but, Im not getting the genre colors.
Do I need to do something else? Or are colors not available with Schedules Direct?

Thanks
