I had the odd experience of seeing some freshly recorded re-runs showing as "Watched" with resume positions set when it was impossible that anyone had watched the shows. At first I was really puzzled, then realized that because all my shows are now renamed by imageGrabLite, the new recording has the same name as the last time it was recorded a few months ago, so it picked up the same PLAYBACK_POSITION record leftover from before. With default naming of course this is generally impossible since no two recordings could ever have the same name.

I had a peek in the PLAYBACK_POSITION table in my database, and found 3922 records. The first ones are from June 27, 2010, the day I installed NPVR 1.5.21.

So clearly these records aren't deleted when the recording is deleted. Should they be? Any reason they shouldn't be deleted? Any downside to having nearly 4000 records.... what about several years on when I have 10,000 records, or 20,000?

A) should NPVR delete the PLAYBACK_POSITION record when a recording is deleted? I vote yes.

B) is there a command to dump my whole PLAYBACK_POSITION table so I can start fresh?

I asked this question in the closed forum during testing but got no answer...

By "dump" do you mean export / save it or do you mean delete all the records without saving? If it's the latter then use a SQLite viewer / editor and execute DELETE FROM PLAYBACK_POSITION

Where did you delete the recording from? If you're in the Recordings screen, then it should also delete the PLAYBACK_POSITION entry.

I rarely delete recordings from anywhere else so I don't see how I could have nearly 4000 entries by some alternate deletion path, but will double-check right now. I know it saves resume points from video library too, but the vast majority of mine are just regular recordings.

ok, you're right, I just deleted a recording and the PLAYBACK_POSITION record went with it.

I suspect then that when NRecord auto-deletes a recording for the "keep xx episodes" logic, it doesn't get the PLAYBACK_POSITION record that way. This is how most of my recordings get deleted. Otherwise I can't explain why I have 4000 records, 90% of which are for recordings that have been gone for months or years.

I didn't actually think I was reporting a bug, but apparently I am.

Ok. Fixed for next build of NShared.dll.

cool, thanks.

I think I will delete my playback_position data with the SQL command Brian posted, get rid of all the old garbage.
