Hello,

I have a question regarding NextPVR and its recording format. I currently have two NPRV boxes:

1. A virtual machine running Windows 7 and NPVR 3.1.1. (Machine #1)
2. A physical machine running Windows 2012 R2 and NPVR 3.2.9. This box has a Hauppauge HVR-2250 installed internally. (Machine #2)

Both boxes also have a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Dual configured as tuners.

Here is the strange thing -- both machines seem to have identical NPVR settings and when both record a channel (Fox HD), Machine #1 outputs MPEG2 and Machine #2 outputs MP4. I'm not sure why this is exactly and haven't found any differences in the configuration of the two. Any hints on where to look? Also, despite recording the same channel, Machine #1 seems to record the channel in 720P (1280 x 720) format but Machine #2 records in 480 (720 x 480). I'm sure they're both pointing at the same channel as well (Freq 91, SID: 3 according to the device channel setup and the HDHomeRun config). I'm just not sure what I might be doing wrong.

EDIT: Just tried another experiment -- on machine 2, I recorded a show off of another HD channel (PBS) and it correctly recorded in 720P resolution AND as MPEG2. Everything seems to indicate that it has the incorrect mapping for Fox HD, but everything looks identical to the machine which is working.

I'm pretty sure machine #2 wont be outputting MP4. The only way this would happen with an HVR-2250 or HDHomeRun Dual is if you've configured your own post processing batch file to transcode the MPEG2 video file these tuners produce. ie, nothing NextPVR would be doing itself.

What you're describing just isn't possible. NPVR writes the transport stream received from the broadcaster, and is unable to make any changes to it.
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct

That is what I thought as well, but I assure you, when I looked at the recordings from this one particular channel, it was an MP4 file. This tells me some job might be kicking off and re-encoding the file. And now that I think it through a little more, I may know what caused it and sub nailed it. Where is that "I'm embarrassed" emoticon when I need it? :o I was playing with the Roku channel and there is a video conversion script and I think it was running. It's only Monday and I already need the weekend. Smile Sorry guys.

Do you have a sample form the mp4 channel? An increasing number of cable companies do transmit h264 streams which you might be confusing with an mp4 stream.

Thanks mvallevand, but I found the culprit. I completely forgot that I had been messing with the Roku NextPVR channel over the weekend and it has a video conversion script run from the NPVR\Scripts folder. Just a brain cramp on my part.
