It has been a long journey to this point. I started off with MediaPortal and found it frustratingly complicated and I gave up. Then later, for a while, my Windows Media Center was working pretty good. Since then I've had all kinds of Windows problems and had to reinstall the O/S several times. Now even scouring the web, I can find nothing to simply start from scratch except reinstall Windows again (ain't gonna happen). So now I'm trying something else over here with nextPVR and XBMC.

This seems only slightly less painful than MediaPortal so far. When I ran the software and it looked for Devices it came up with the same list as MediaPortal. It shows my primary (mislabeled) as Conexant Polaris BDA Tuner and a secondary as Tuner for Windows Media Center (I have no idea why this is here as I only have the one tuner hardware). So here's the final config:

ATSC Conexant Polaris BDA Tuner 0 Channels
QAM Conexant Poaris BDA Tuner 63 Channels
ATSC Tuner for Windows Media Center 0 Channels
QAM Tuner for Windows Media Center 63 Channels
IPTV IPTV Device 0 Channels

I tried to follow the wiki about adding an analog device, it seems to have gotten me nowhere. I cannot seem to get any channels from the analog side. However, the EPG only has data for the analog channels and the digital channels are not mapped correctly.

So I am still trying to figure out what the magic switch, config, voodoo, etc. is to get analog channels (which Windows Media Center at one time had no problems with). Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

the magic switch, config, voodoo, etc. to get analog channels is exactly what it says in the wiki. if you have installed SoftPVR, then go into NextPVR->Settings, view the Devices screen; if your analog tuner does not show up, then exit and post your NPVR.log (it's critical that you do view the Devices screen before posting the log, else needed info will not be there).

Forgive me if I am stating the bleedin' obvious ... NextPVR lists the TV tuner drivers that it finds. It appears that your tuner device has two pairs of drivers with one driver pair for use by Media Centre and one driver pair for use by other software (including NextPVR).

Conexant Polaris is the name of the chip that is inside the kWorld device. It is likely that Conexant produce a generic driver for use by all of the manufacturers that use Conexant chips in their tuner devices.

It appears that the tuner can process a signal from a single antenna cable and that signal can be NTSC analog (typically old analogue over-the-air) OR ATSC digital (typically new digital over-the-air) OR QAM (typically digital cable). It may be that you are receiving more than one type of input signal if the antenna cable is from a cable TV source (I am 3,000 miles too far away to properly understand US cable TV).

You only need the analog voodoo if the antenna cable is providing an analog ATSC signal to the tuner. What is the input to your tuner?
