transcoding video

Hi,
Not really sure this is the right place for the question - but I couldn't see anywhere jumping out at me in the forum list...
I'd like to convert the file that nPVR records to a format viewable on my iPod.

I have successfully converted files using ffmpeg - however even though the files created will play on my computer, they don't play on the iPod.... does anyone know of a command line that will tell ffmpeg to encode with settings for the iPod 5?

WinFF is a GUI for ffmpeg that has a lot of presets, I'm sure they have one for iPod too, and faster than Mcebuddy.

Thanks very much for these replies - I've looked into them and they'll be very useful.
I also struck upon the a command line that does work for my version of ffmpeg... posting it here in case anyone else needs it in the future - not though that by that time, some of the switches may have changed!

(also noticed that file names need to have no spaces for them to work....?!

ffmpeg -i {input file name goes here} -acodec aac -ac 2 -strict experimental -ab 160k -s 640:480 -vcodec libx264 -preset slow -profile:v baseline -level 3.0 -movflags +faststart -maxrate 10000000 -bufsize 10000000 -b:v 1200k -f mp4 -threads 0 {output file name}.mp4

It should work enclosing filenames in double quotes ("). Also ffmpeg has some presets for quality/speed, I'v had success using "-preset superfast" instead of specifying bitrate etc.

Edit: WinFF also lets you define your own presets for transcoding.
