Just a quick update to thank everyone for their assistance. I finally realized I wasn't having a TUNER problem, or a RECORDING problem. Thanks to the good explanations I got, it finally clicked that it was a PLAYBACK problem. Although I've been using the software for years, I never really understood how it worked. (I still don't fully understand it, but I'm getting there!). It clicked when I pulled up a recording from last Monday (one of my testing days) that I had referred to as "poor quality" and with the new codecs installed, it was perfect and clear. So, thank you to all the very knowledgeable people who maintain the software and help out on the forum.
