Let's say you are watching Live TV on a client. You go back to the guide and find a new channel to watch. You have a choice menu of "Close, Quick Record, Record, Find All and Watch". Let's say you choose "Watch". At that point the client sends instructions to the server to tune to the new channel. Note: BTW, the same command gets sent if you right click -> channels -> and choose a channel from the pop-up window.

Does anybody know the command/syntax that gets sent from the client to the server to change the channel?

The reason why?
I would like to change channels on the server via a program other than using NPVR on the client. As you can see, this is the remote on my client. Each channel has its own little icon. I can place any command to anywhere under those buttons. I would like to place the NPVR command under each button.
Also, besides channel changes, I would also like to send commands "Toggle Previous Channel (ie, GoBack)" and "Channel Up (ie double arrow up)" and "Channel Down (ie double arrow down)" if possible.

A few methods come to mind

- remote control using eventghost
- remote control of xbmc pvr using jsonpvr
- develop your own own app and cast the http stream rather than control nextpvr
- develop your own own app and server and control it using hooks sub built for web client

Martin,

I'm not asking for options of remote control (I use girder and netremote and wget and it works great), I asking for the syntax of the command that gets sent to the server commanding a channel change.

There isn't one, it's not client/server in the traditional sense I believe it uses .NET remoting

I'm not familiar with and am not sure I can mimic that type of communication. Just thought I would inquire. Oh well.

It's not that simple, you can't just send a message to the server to tell it to change channels. The client needs explicitly open and close connections each time it changes channels.

Your best bet is rolling your own solution when yore send the keystrokes to the client (ie channel numbers etc), so it'll take care of all the right activities behind the scenes.

Thanks sub, I'll try to give that a go.

Just so I understand, Eventghost has the ability to send the necessary command to the server?
