I have PowerDVD 12 and am trying to use the audio decoder in NPVR.

I found this MediaPortal link and followed the instructions to register the decoders.
http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIA...VD_Decoder

After registering the decoders they became visible in NPVR and I can select them in the settings. However when I select the Cyberlink Audio Decoder for AC3 Audio there isn't any sound. I have to use AC3 audio because I have a transcoding HDHomerun and that's the container it uses.

So has anyone else tried to do something like this? I can fallback to using LAV, but was looking for a higher quality decoder.

Thanks.

My very first issue with NPVR back in December 2012 was that I couldn't get audio even though my dropdown list was full of AC3 decoders, including Cyberlink and Microsoft. Short answer: Dolby licensing restrictions. I've been using AC3Filter ever since, with no complaints about audio quality. Now when it comes to video decoders, Cyberlink is king of the world.

It's probably a decoder that requires a license key to be sent to a private interface to allow AC3 support, ie only usable for AC3 in Cyberlink software - much like the Microsoft audio decoder.

If this decoder doesn't give you any sound, then you'll probably need to switch to a different decoder.

As Zeb says, AC3Filter works great, buut LAV decoders also works fine for AC3 audio.

Sounds good guys, thanks. I'll probably continue to use LAV or look into AC3Filter. Lav is working fine for me in general, except during live TV the sound stutters. I'm wondering if it's really LAV that is responsible for this or if it has something to do with the stream being transcoded. When watching a previously recorded file the sound is fine.

Thanks.

Try setting MPEG1 Audio to Disabled.

The LAV decoder can be cpu intensive, so if your system is on the brink I'd recomment AC3Filter, it's free. Remember to download the 32-bit version even if you are running a 64bit windows.

Thanks, does it have to be the 32 bit version because NPVR runs in 32 bit mode?
