Was interesting they noted trying to set up NextPVR but "struggled".

Funny, a little googling and I really had no problem setting it up with NextPVR. My problems were related to getting the Comcast/XFinity cable-card configured....

However, it's almost a must with Comcast/XFinity now since they scrambled all the channels and QAM is no longer an option.

The common reason that HDHR users have problems is their firewall software blocking data from HDHR to NextPVR, and as soon as they allow NextPVR access, it typically works fine.

I had no problems either.....but then I've been around the software for years (omg....9 years as of 10 days ago).

But the firewall thing has been an issue ever since window 7 (xp?) when the recording service was IP based -= or if you had an MVP you needed to deal with firewalls.

I mean they didn't go into detail what their problems were.

I had major issues with NextPVR mode on the HDHR. In North America channel mapping plus setting an EPG aren't trival at all especially without Schedules Direct so I understand where they are coming from, it's far from plug & play and that's before the typical problem with decoders.

As sub said, my old HDHR only had problems with the firewall until recently when an update to my AVG antivirus (which I hate) in W8.1 blocked live tv with the HDHR. Setting an exception fixed that.

some apps seem to trigger a request to grant firewall access when they are run. Is this some feature of the installer that could be inplemented? (I don't recall ever seeing windows asking me to grant access to npvr/nrecord etc) as I have had my rules setup for so long. e.g. netsh firewall add allowedprogram C:\MyApp\MyApp.exe MyApp ENABLE

if sub could add netsh firewall calls to the installer, it would probably eliminate a bunch of support requests and frustrated users.
