I think my question above will expose the culprit. On my win10 system, bitdefender blocks NextPVR.exe and NRecord.exe every single time I install an update version. I realized awhile ago that stops the install actions of upgrading the database and adding firewall exceptions, possibly even prevents the NPVR Recording Service entry from being added, so after I unblock them I always run the installer again just to be sure; I suspect most users who encounter this will just click "unblock" and go on, not realizing something has been missed.
If bitdefender is doing this, it's likely other antivirus/antimalware/firewall products are doing this too.
I don't think so many people are manually copying in a non-upgraded database.

No, ran as admin Windows Defender turned OFF, no other anti-virus running.
Run "nextpvr.exe -updatedb" how and in what directory? I tried in PowerShell, I couldn't figure where I should be. I used to know how to use a terminal, 20 years ago in OS9 on my Color Computer.

so much for that theory... we just don't get why we often see databases with missing columns after upgrade, when the installer always runs nextpvr.exe -updatedb during the install.
I presume nextpvr.exe -updatedb did indeed correct this for you?
