I only installed NVPR yesterday so I am completely new to this. I am using a Tevion 6430 USB dongle type adapter which is recognised by Win 7 Pro as a Realtek. It works fine in Windows Media Center and picks up 127 TV and radio channels. NVPR sees the dongle and scanned OK for channels, picking up 115 and getting the EPG, including ITV, which Media Center doesn't get. Clicking Live TV brings up the error "unable to communicate with recording service". I did a search for the error but the only hit I understood was one about the Hosts file, which didn't make any difference. Where do I go from here? Hopefully the zipped log file is attached.

Martin.

Your log containg only npvr.log, do you have a Nrecord.log? It is best always zip and post the entire logs directory. Also, you can run Services.msc and see if you have a service named "NPVR Recording Service".

Do you have 'act as client PC' ticked on the Settings->Devices screen?

Looks like the only other files in there are previous logs. No nrecord.log and no NPVR Recording Service

I don't have 'act as client PC' ticked. Should it be ticked? If I do tick it, I get a database missing error before the main window and then when i click Live TV I get 'no such host is known'

I decided to reinstall NPVR and seem to be getting somewhere this time. At least the recording service is running now. I'll keep messing and get back to you if I get stuck again.
Thanks.
Martin.

No, you shouldn't have it ticked.

That 'no such host is known' error was exactly what you got in the original logs, which is why I asked. I wouldn't expect you to get that if you're connecting to the local machine.

I have now got it working but if I change channel by right clicking and choosing channels, it locks up for a while, then the new channel eventually appears but at about 1 frame per second, then eventually the picture returns to normal. This doesn't happen if I go back to the EPG and change channel from there.

I don't think I ever used that method to change channel. Does the same happen if you use +/- on the keypad or up arrow and select another channel?

This might come down to the 'LAV Video Decoder' you are trying to use. Other users have had problems with this decoder in the past too. I'd try another decoder.
