Hi,

I use NextPvr on my local PC to watch movies from a fileserver on my home network.
I can't store metadata on the fileserver so I was wondering if there's any way to store metadata on the local PC
and have it display when I access a movie from the fileserver.

I'm guessing that NextPvr expects the metadata to be in the same folder as the actual movie file, but I'm not
certain of this.

Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

Usually people would have it in the same directory as the media, but you can also have it in C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows, with the same name as the video but .png/.jpg/.xml

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've tried putting the metadata (just a couple of .jpg files for now) into the C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows directory but they do not display when I select those movies.
If I put the metadata files into the same directories as the actual movie files, the jpgs display just fine.
Is there a setting I need to change to tell NextPvr to look for metadata in the C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows directory, or should this happen automatically?
Any other thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

From Media\Shows I believe it is the folder name not filename that needs to match.

Thanks, but I'm still having trouble.

As a test I've put a movie, Alice.mp4 onto an external USB drive which is connected to my NextPVR PC.
I have placed a picture, Alice.jpg into the C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows folder of my NextPVR PC.
I've added the USB drive as a Media Folder in NextPVR and called it MyMovies.

When I dial up the Alice.mp4 movie in NextPVR the picture does not display.
So I tried making a folder in C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows called Alice and placed Alice.jpg in it. (ie C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows\Alice\Alice.jpg) - nogo
I also tried - C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows\MyMovies\Alice.jpg
and C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Media\Shows\MyMovies\Alice\Alice.jpg
but the only way I can get Alice.jpg to display is to place it on the USB drive alongside the movie.

Thanks for any further assistance.

Don't create folders in Media\Shows just put Alice.jpg there On your USB use Alice\Alice.mp4

Then you can get everything you want...

OK, that works. Thanks.

However, all the movies I watch are in a single folder on the fileserver. To get this scheme to work I would have to put each movie into it's own folder (which I can't do since it's not my fileserver).
Is there any way I can work around this?

Sorry, probably not. It expects you'll put movies in their own folder.

NextPVR is strictly for personal use in a home. It can't be used in commercial settings, so lets home the that "fileserver admin" is another name for your dad, or your brother, or something similar.
