Dish Network capture card

I am totally new to DVR and PVR. But I am experienced with computers. So I am going to do a project and build a PVR and see if I can get rid of most of my cable bills. Me question is this:

I have Dish Network . So I receive my channels over a satellite. What video capture card/tuner card internal do I need for my computer? I want the best so I get good HD reception. Also, do I have to have an antenna installed to use an OTA card? Thank you.

OTA: yes, you will need an antenna, and the process of antenna selection & placement is mostly the same as you'd go through for setting up just a straight TV on antenna reception.

Dish: You'll still need the STB and will want to look at something like the Hauppage HDPVR or Colossus units.

But if you have Dish network... how/why do you have cable?

Really the only thing we use DISH for anymore is for the Italian International and German International channel and for BEIN sports to watch our soccer. Is it possible to get these channels without using Dish? I am real new at this. I would like to be able to get the local channels and maybe a couple of others. But for sure, the Italian, German and BEIN Soccer channel. Is that possible without subscribing to DISH or another company? Can I do it with the tuners? Thank you for your help.

I don't think that's really a question for this forum. NextPVR is a DVR service and needs a capture device to work, that capture device has to be fed by some sort of television service (OTA or via Cablecard/Set Top Box). NextPVR cannot get or record content for you that comes in via another method.

Determining the optimal solution for you should start with the content you want, then determine what you need to do to get that content, and plan for a hardware/software solution from there.
