Still feeling a bit outwitted by this. So these are the first few results from iGL postprocessing "C:\Program Files\NPVR\imageGrabLite.exe" --oid %3 --rename --nfo

Octonauts.S03E340..ts
Chuggington.2014-12-07.Blazin' Wilson Children's animation.ts
Strictly Come Dancing.S03E340..ts
Peppa Pig.S03E341..ts

Why is everything being named season 3 episode 340 and (therefore?) missing its subtitle, except Chuggington? Is the subtitle coming from TVDB, or being passed over by NPVR from the recording metadata/EPG info?

As an aside; none of these are being 'read' correctly by XBMC yet, but that maybe subject to another post once I can understand the logic of the renaming.

Thanks.

iGL works best with the subtitles it doesn't look like your guide data is providing it. The --nfo option forces a valid format the E is just the day of the year that iGL runs, not great for bulk loading. If your guide data does have valid season/episode information try adding the --season command line option.

Hmm. Maybe this isn't quite the utility I'm looking for. All the NPVR recordings have what I would call a title (yellow text) and a subtitle (white text). And the subtitle often contains episode information. But is it in some consistent and universally recognised format. I don't know. I doubt it.
The mystery question is can you think why Chugginton got a snippet of useful info appended to the file name, and none of the others?

The examples you gave didn't have subtitles or they'd be there. Chuggington must be marked on the thetvdb as a Daily show and probably first run, so iGL used Daily numbering. There appears to be some genre stuff in your subtitle too so it isn't good matching data.

This is the kind of thing NPVR shows. Am I confusing a technical definition of subtitle, with some random text field found in UK EPG data? All shows have a similar format when viewed through NPVR.

That's exactly what I suspected for Chuggington. The genre stuff in there is a problem. If you want I could look at your database and guide data if you want to make it available post a link or PM me.

Fuzzweed, are you using birtles xmltv to add season & episode (and maybe even genre) to the subtitle field?

General overview of my situation is; Have migrated to XBMC for a client a while back and am now comfortable enough with it to try and get the bells and whistles working, in this case getting NPVR recordings to show up in TV shows.
As far as I can see all the 'subtitle' info appears in Live TV -> recordings, but nothing appears in TV shows due to XBMC not understanding NPVRs file name convention.

A bit of googling seemed to point to iGL as the best first step, so short answer, 'No' (or at least not yet; I'm not sure if you're implying that I should be using it or whether you're thinking that using it would confuse the situation further). Everything so far is NPVR data as grabbed from UK OTA DVBT EPG, and XBMC as installed (I've read there's possibly another way of adding something to advancedsettings.xml to get XBMC to 'read' the NPVR file names but it looked the more confusing option so haven't ventured there)

Thanks As suspected, you don't have any subtitles or season/episode but the description is overloaded with a bit of consistency and I could get some matches for sure. If you are interested let me know, I won't really be able to test it.
