I'm recording a lot of overlapping shows right now and I've just got my first confirmed "conflict" which shows up as "red" in NEWA. My question is are "conflicts" just for the show, for example 10:00 - 11:00 or does it also take into account the pre padding and post padding set for the recording say 9:58 to 10:02?

Multi-record wasn't a problem before with my old QAM/ATSC tuners but switching to a HDHR Prime it's become more of a issue as the prime can't multi-record on the same channel for overlapping recordings, at least not yet. It's not a huge problem and I can work around it if I know I'm going to have a issue with a particular recording.

So in short, does the conflict flag include the padding or just the basic time?

Thanks

Padding is always considered optional, and wont cause conflicts.

In the case of a HDHR Prime, that Npvr can only use for one recording, does Npvr just ignore the padding and cut the recording short?

If a tuner isn't available for padding then the padding, it'll stop at the recording end time (without recording the extra x minutes of post padding).

It's got three tuners though, so NextPVR can be doing three recordings at the same time.

Yes, it can but... I have a HDHR Prime (3 tuners via cablecard for the encrypted channels) and a USB QAM tuner which picks up the local channels. I have the USB tuner set as tuner #4 but the local channels can all be accessed on either the HDHR Prime (encrypted) or QAM which I have mapped together so either the HDPR Prime or the USB tuner can pick up the recording. The problem comes with the order of the recordings. For example, I have 4 recording coming up which all start at the same time and all have 2 min pre and post padding. Theoretically Npvr should be able to record all 4 but in this example the first channel is a local accessible to both the HDHR and the USB tuner, but the HDHR is set first so the HDHR Prime picks up the recording. The next 3 recordings are encrypted so only available to the HDHR Prime. So what will happen is the HDHR Prime grabs the first 3 recordings fine, but the 4th is encrypted so the remaining free tuner, which is the USB QAM, can't record it. So in the end I have a free tuner, which could record one of the shows, but I miss a recording due to the order Npvr allocated the tuners.

In a perfect world I would want Npvr to use the USB tuner for the local channels first, then the HDHR Prime if the USB tuner was already recording. Or even more, decide if 2 upcoming recordings available in both the HDHR Prime & the USB tuner are coming in a row and use the USB QAM tuner for both. What I've found is if the HDHR Prime has an open tuner it will pick up the recording as it's next in the que rather than the QAM which is in use on the same channel.

Please don't take this as a gripe though, I know it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to incorporate the logic necessary to make it that "smart" and it would only benefit a very small group of users (maybe just me!)

Thank you for making NPvr so great though!

Unless I'm totally missing something in your message (possible with the way I'm feeling right now).....

NextPVR sets up it's recordings using the devices from the top down, so in your case why not move your USB tuner to the top of the list & then it will use it in preference to the HDHR Prime if it can??

Yes, that would fix the problem tomorrow were the local channel is the first recording, but I have the exact opposite problem tonight were recording #4 is a local channel and Npvr needs to use that tuner last. I can rearrange the tuners to suit, it's just not very convenient.

What about adjusting program priority by making sure your QAM programs are picked up first?

Sorry, I'm missing something too... you said
Quote:I have the USB tuner set as tuner #4 but the local channels can all be accessed on either the HDHR Prime (encrypted) or QAM which I have mapped together so either the HDPR Prime or the USB tuner can pick up the recording.
in which case I would have thought that recording #4 (local channel) could be allocated to the Prime...

The Prime has 3 tuners which pick up all the channels thru a cablecard, including the local channels. The USB QAM tuner only receives the local channels. The problem arises when the Prime picks up the first 3 recordings (including local channels) and leaves only a non-local channel (cablecard only) which the USB QAM can't receive hence as missed recording unless I rearrange the tuner order for each situation.
