I own an HDHomeRun Dual for ATSC as well as a cablecard Prime, and have always used them with NPVR. SD just announced their Kickstarter campaign with an intent to build a software dvr for the devices, and detail it will run on a NAS as a server, and use low-cost clients and possibly a Kodi client. They feature a YouTube video overview and show a rather primitive interface.

I have no intention of paying for DVR software when I have NPVR, which already appears to do everything their proposed solution does, with nearly any tuner device out there. I think they should just license NPVR!

For those interested, though: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/127...e-imagined

Actually, their proposed solution does do one significant thing that NPVR doesn't: it is supposed to support copy-once protected content.

It is funny. Can't hire a single engineer around here for 100K.

I just wonder how long US cable companies will be able to stay up to date. I'm thinking in 10 years we'll be getting all our content online and not directly thru these companies. I believe they could stay around longer if they'd let us pick, choose and pay for just what we want.
Back to the subject.....I kind of like what they have planned though I'm very much not planning of going that route. They do bombard me with emails daily though.

Ditto re: emails. I'm not impressed with the VIEW product, which will (?) be the basis for their DVR if this goes through. It does improve channel mapping compared to the old QuickTV tool.

I would much rather they had actually produced the 6-tuner Prime that they announced over a year ago. Sad

You'd be surprised, but adding support for copy-once / copy-never isn't too hard, and I have actually had this going in NextPVR. The problem is the DRM you have to apply, the limitations that would come with the DRM, and the certification/licensing costs. My tests had no DRM, and everything available. ie exactly what you'd want, but not what can be legally provided Big Grin

They have a few weasel words in their description of support for copy protected content, giving the impression it'll be available on all clients, but their disclaimer makes me like it's not going happen on some of those clients (like PCs, and platforms that can't be easily tied down)

Yeah, I noted that they say it may not be available on all platforms. So we won't know for a while exactly what will and won't work. But it would be nice to have some competition for Media Center.
