Hi all, just trying this htpc front end just got into this htpc thing. this is the first program i choose for all in one setup being not too sure how to setup the movies i had and tv series i have got that i have ripped to my hard drives i found out the folder structure for tv series so the tvdb.com can understand them and give me all the bells and whistles lol all so same for the movies where it gets metadata from themoviedb or IMDB .

But i see now where in the inter face in nxtpvr for these two things, i've search forum but when i mention in the search about tv series it show topic's about recorded tv series via tv guide epg data nothing on about actual dvd rips of tv series where metadata comes from tvdb.com

so i ask to all user's that have riped dvd movies and tv series from dvd also how do you set them up with the metadata to look fancy

any help would be nice

NextPVR can play video files that were not recorded by NextPVR using the Videos menu item.

Use Settings ..> Misc2 and tick on "Show new metadata screens in Video library" to get the artwork display.

Many thanks for your help graham, ticked them boxes and where i can see the said shows with yellow folder when i select metadata it only gets the cover for the folder and when i enter folder no season cover is there and when entering season folder no episode data is there even if i reselect metadata on the actual episode. bit stumped been searching the forums to shed light on this but hav'nt no news how to do it

You can use up arrow on the keyboard or on the remote to make a "hidden" menu appear at the top of the screen. Keep hitting up until the "hidden" menu appears. The "hidden" menu includes a "View" item. The display changes each time you click View, there should be about three or four different ways to display the Video library listing.

I expect that NextPVR expects the art to be in specific folders but I am not sure what the rules are. Did you see ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...eoMetadata

NextPVR does not do as good a job with "bling" as, for example, Kodi/XBMC. You can use Kodi as a front end for NextPVR ...

So ive pick the wrong front end lol been trying to sort it out since 7.30 am uk time , so this is mainly for live tv not really up for having movies and tv series ( with full seasons and episode data) out of intrest graham if you have riped tv series how have you got them setup?

I use NextPVR to watch shows that I have recorded with NextPVR. I use the TV Listings plugin (and the Recordings plugin that comes with TV Listings) to manage recordings. I never watch Live TV. I record dozens of shows each week (and delete many because I don't have time to watch them). I use NextPVR because it is completely and utterly reliable. I am not much bothered about metadata and art and all that.

if you've got a tv tuner in your pc and want to record/watch live tv via the tuner, then NextPVR is probably the best software for the job.

if you don't have a tuner and want a front end to access your ripped/download tv shows and movies and you want the software go and download all the artwork for you automagically, then you will probably be happier with Kodi as it automates this better than NextPVR does. In fact think that NextPVR only looks up tvdb.com for new recordings, not existing videos on your disk.

I think gEd has it about right. I only use NPVR and am satisfied with the appearance of my recorded/downloaded TV and movies. My son only uses KODI and thinks I should be doing so also, although he's not happy about the live TV options in KODI. The difference is I'm retired and have plenty of time and he isn't/doesn't. There are ways to make NPVR look very attractive with artwork and plot descriptions but you're going to have to work a little harder to get that look than you will in KODI. On the other hand, if live TV is your thing, it's hard to beat NPVR. You decide which you want to use, and if it's NPVR, I'm sure you'll get plenty of help. I know I did when I went through this process a few months ago, and I'll be happy to help you also if NPVR is your choice.
