I am completely lost with the TV Guide. I live in the US and used to using Media Center, however with Window 10 is not going to have Media Center. So I am looking for a program to use. I was directed to NextPVR. I have seen Guide Plus, XMLTV, mc2xml and Zap2to it. What do I need to use, most of the text I have seen were 2013 or older, so what do I need. I also say something about making a batch file for Zap2it, what text is need, where is that file supposed to be. I have not written a batch file in more than 10 years not sure I even remember how. Is there any easy way to make the TV Guide work close to how Media Center did. I have been able to use Titan TV Guide with Hauppauge WinTV and Media Center, however it will not work with NextPVR. Is there any easy way to use the TV Guide. The guide that comes with the program will not work the way I want. I will look at the guide in the morning to record programs that night since I will not be home. Any suggestions?

In the US, there isn't really a broadcast EPG, so you need to supply to supply the listings for NextPVR to use.

Your options in that part of the world are Schedules Direct ($25 a year, best supported and easiest to setup), or mc2xml. I've also seen a couple of people mention zap2xml recently, so that may also be an option.

If you let us know what you're going with, will give you some tips on how you need to set it up.

I do not want to pay so that narrows the options. However have you ever heard or seen http://www.titantv.com/? That website will set a recording up for Hauppauge WinTV and Media Center or even start it to watch a program. I have tried to use it with NextPVR it will open it but does not put it on the correct station. That is only for watching, if you try to record it does not do any thing. If this would work this would be a perfect solution. It works for Media Center and WinTV I just do not know how it is doing it. If this would work it would help everyone in the US that wants to use your program and it does not cost anything.

Pay the $25 per year and save yourself major headaches. It's well worth the price.

If you're not willing to pay for schedules direct, then look into mc2xml.

It's not going to work with titantv.com

mc2xml can download 3 types of epg, WMC legacy, titantv [need a code to make work], and schedules direct [SD,$25/year]
the mc2xml-WMC is a crap shoot whether it works right now, mine doesn't anymore because of the MS changeover of their supplier of epg. but you can pay for the 'advanced' version which supposedly is working with the new service. [20$]
and mc2xml-titantv i suspect doesn't work anymore even with code...
mc2xml-SD works fine, but mc2xml is not needed for import, it's only needed if you want to modify the details of the xml before import. use the npvr built-in support normally..

currently i'm using zap2xml http://zap2xml.mooo.com/ which you have to sign up on their website to manage channels,etc..free, but less data[actors etc.] Smile
you create a batch file in 'scripts' directory in npvr data dir called UpdateEPG.bat and put the line in there to download the xml..
mine's:
zap2xml.exe -o epg.xml -u username -p password -d 15 -S 1 -D -A "new live" -E "amp apos quot lt gt" -F
the username/pass is your logon on zap2it website..

I'm not sure zap2xml should be discussed here as it sure seems to violate the ToS http://zap2it.com/terms-of-service/

I'm pretty sure mc2xml does too, but I've long since given up caring about this when it comes to EPG stuff.

just download the -install.exe and run it to extract the zap2xml.exe. [the other one requires perl, another thing to install, the -install.exe has this built-in]
place it in npvrdata\scripts dir.
also make batch file as in above post [UpdateEPG.bat] and place also in scripts dir..
then run batch file manually once to create guide epg.xml, then go into npvr settings and map channels to the epg..
done Smile
