viewing Encrypted Channels is my wish.

With the demise of Windows Media Center on Win10, NextPVR for me is the only true clear cut runner up. It works great, except for those encrypted channels. I use the HD HomeRun Primes and even though they allow viewing encrypted channels they won't display in NextPVR which I don't completely understand why not. What would be needed to get certification?

If NextPVR could provide that, it would be the King of LiveTV.

Sorry, it's unlikely to happen. When it comes to CableCard, the complicated bits are really licensing and certification, which can easily cost $100K+, and recertification is required for major version releases. The NextPVR is given away for free, so we obviously have zero money that could be spent on this.

you could use the Primes for the unencrypted channels and get a colossus or hdpvr unit to watch encrypted channels from a stb like i do...Smile [from component outs on stb, removing encryption]
it means fewer tuners for encrypted, but it's usually manageable for me, don't watch too much encrypted stuff regularly..

Believe me, I am not a fan of Windows 10. I was just noticing on these forums how many of the issues seem to surround the Windows 10 users (poor lil fellas). I still have my Window 7, 8, 8.1 on all of our machines. But with Media Center not being supported (and it has it's drawbacks), I was just day-dreaming about how nice NextPVR is and how it would be great if it had certification.

Perhaps someone might do a kickstart program (like Silicondust did/is) for certification and charge a small monthly fee. Within weeks SD raised nearly a 1/4 million dollars for their project. And there will be a fee to use their new DVR service they are working on. OR, maybe NextPVR could team with Kodi on a project, that would be sweet. This is a Wishlist Thread Smile

The restrictions on the data would also mean that these channels encrypted channels would not be available to Kodi clients, only NextPVR itself.

Sub, question regarding this: Is the major cost licensing/certification or are there major development costs as well?

It's mainly licensing / certification costs. There is some effort required too, but nothing I'm not capable of.

Sub you should do like Silcon Dust and when you hit $150k of donations offer it. That was the "price" for Kodi support without DRM.

Sub, Please Don't do anything like Silicon Dust ! LOL, that project is a complete fiasco - just read some of their forum posts Smile. A project that would offer encrypted channel capabilities, I would support though.
