Sub,

Can you be more specific about this enhancement....

"- app now tells user if they're missing decoders they require"

I am constantly fighting a stuttering problem and hope this will help.
I just don't know where I should be looking.

Thanx!

What decoders are you using?

This features shows the follow types of messages if it detects you have are missing an audio or video decoder.

Reddwarf,

I have tried so many different decoders I can't remember them all;
LAV, Microsoft, Cyberlink, SAF, ffdshow etc.

I can get the video to play OK when I first choose a decoder, then after some time, perhaps due to skipping thru the video, or playing an MKV I downloaded, the stuttering will start. My quick fix is to simply start and stop the UI.

I was hoping Sub's new enhancement might help me find the problem.

Thanx for your response.

SUB,

If I understand you, the message shows up when you try to play the video?

When I first fired up the new version, I had the Microsoft decoder selected and I wasn't getting any video.
After changing decoders I started to get video.

I was hoping the new enhancement would have guided me at that point?

Thanx.

What version of Windows are you running? If it's a version where the Microsoft decoder doesn't work for MPEG-2, then it shouldn't have allowed you to select this in the first place, and if you didn't have any other decoders, this probably would have left that option on 'disabled', which then should have definitely resulted in a message like the one I showed.

If it's successfully hooked up a decoder, but that decoder isn't doing anything, it wouldn't be able to tell that is the case, so no message.

I'm running WIN 7.
I tried setting the decoder to DEF just to see the message and it worked.

However, I was hoping for a more specific message than what is shown; something more on the order of MediaInfo.

As I explained earlier in this thread, I'm having a stuttering problem and thought this might help.

What do you mean?

Often after installing NextPVR on a fairly clean machine users often end up with all their decoders set to 'disabled' and they have no idea what decoders they need. This tells them exactly which decoders they need to set on the Settings screen. ie, those users continually post things like "I can see the picture, but I can't hear any audio" will now get a message telling them they can't hear any audio because they need an AC3 decoder, rather than leaving them blind with no idea.

This change pretty much meets my desired needs, but I'm always happy to take suggestions for further enhancements if you've got something worthwhile in mind.

The message I get with the decoder set to Disabled is...

"No video? You haven't configured an MPEG-2 video decoder, which is required for this channel."
"You can fix this on the Settings>Decoders screen."

Yep, this is the intended behaviour. My hope is that this will stop new users posting a message saying "I can't see any video" because they have a missing video decoder.
