Hi,

Just trying to understand - when streaming from NextPVR (using live?recording=, or transcode?recording= for example), does NextPVR use the Comskip info (in the stream)?

Thanks!

Comskip is a external program that analyses the recording (either while recording or once finished)then outputs a edl file which shows where the add breaks are npvr or kodi(other players also) use the edl file to skip the commercials

I think his question was weather the .edl file is used when you stream a recording to a client of some sort...

The quick answer is NO.

Are you sure? If I go to Videos and watch a recording on another npvr system the edl file is definitely used...

Correct - that's the question (sorry it wasn't clear!). I have a PostProcessing.bat file that runs comskip, generates the .edl file. Just wondering if it's used to skip commercials when streaming.

Thanks!

What exactly are you streaming to as in what player are you using ?

The same command works for multiple players, e.g. http://localhost:8866/live?recording=905 (sorry, this wasn't real clear above). Just not sure if that "playback" uses the .edl file. Trying to test it here.

Thanks!

OK, tested it out - nope, commercials are not skipped (i.e. .edl file is not used). Perhaps (likely!) a dumb question, but ... why not? Or make it a "command line" option?

Thanks!

Because skipping (i.e. reading and using the .edl file) is a function of the playback client not the streaming server. For skipping to work with a client, the client must first have a method to read the .edl file to get the list of skip points, and then it must be able to use those skip points to actually skip during the playback.

I'm not sure, but I don't believe that the method of streaming that you are trying to use (via HTTP) supports "random access" (i.e. skipping to a particular point in the file).
