Hello,

I have had NEXTPVR installed for a while now (running well) but wasn't able to use it much as I didn't have a great antenna. Today I installed a decent antenna, updated my schedules direct info (had to install the nshared.dll patch to get schedules direct to work) and it was working but sometimes didn't tune to a channel, just had a black screen.

I restarted the computer and I now get the "Unable to communicate with recording service" error.

I am using windows 7 with HD home run as the tuner. I am able to view channels with the HD Homerun software but not NEXTPVR.

I have read some threads saying to just turn on the recording service but I do not see where to do this. I see the nrecord.exe but windows wont let me double click on it to run it. I have also tried what someone suggested typing nrecord.exe RUN in the cmd line which returned the "this is not a command".

I also can't seem to find the logs, there is nothing in the C: Users/users/public the only thing in there is C/users/public/recorded tv There is not a nextpvr folder or any logs.

Any help is appreciated.

More info that may help.

nrecord IS running in the task manager

Windows component services shows the error below for npvr recording service.

"EventData

Service cannot be started. The service process could not connect to the service controller"

Reading this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...rvice-quot

I do see that NPVR recording service is shown as started in the services.msc

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. As I stated in my initial message I can't find any logs. There is not a npvr folder in c: \users\public

There is a recorded tv folder but that's not even where I have my recorded tv set up.

I want to post some logs but hav no idea where they are, I have even searched "log" in the search and found nothing.

Your npvr directory is definitely there somewhere (or you wouldn't have been able to start the app at all), so take another look around.

On a normal Windows install (where Windows is installed on C:\ drive), then it'll be in c:\users\public\npvr. If you're on XP, it's elsewhere, but you said Win7, so I wont bother typing the long directory name.

if there's no c:\users\public\npvr folder (and you didn't tell the installer to put it somewhere else - check in regedit HKLM\Software\NPVR (or on 64-bit HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\NPVR) and check the data path), then you've accidentally moved or deleted the directory. either restore it or re-install and start over.

Thank you for the replies.

NEXTPVR is installed in c: program files (x86) but there is no nrecord log. The nrecord.exe in there but that's it, no log.

This seemed to happen just after I mapped all of my schedules direct channels if that helps at all.

Is my only option to reinstall? If so what version should I install?

During the install, the executables get installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR", and all the data files in "C:\Users\Public\NPVR". The logs are in with the data files.

If you can run NextPVR, and see the main menu etc, then you definitely have the data files, because these contain the graphics and config files etc. The app wont even start without the data files.

Ok so where the heck are these data files then? The main menu in next pvr works fine, (everything worked fine until a few days ago), but there is no NPVR folder in C:\Users\Public\NPVR where would it be?

I also have an older version of next pvr, should I just delete everything and reinstall? If I save the channels file elsewhere and put it back in after the install will that save al my channel mapping I did with schedules direct?

Thank you,
