Server Sleeps when in use!

Has anyone else had the problem where the server sometimes sleeps if a recording is left paused on X-NEWA for a few minutes. It doesn't seem to happen if the client boots and wakes the server and just left in that state.

When the server was running Vista I think it also sometimes went to sleep during playback so I used a utility called SmartPower which prevented server sleep if either of my OpenElec/X-NEWA clients were on line. This worked well until I upgraded to Windows 8 recently and I often found the server awake long after it should have slept because SmartPower thought Windows was "busy" so prevented sleep. Windows 8/10 seem to get lots of complaints about them running high disk or processor usage for no obvious reason!

When x-newa is paused in playback I can certainly see this happening if you have a shorter sleep then pause There is no network traffic or anything to the server from x-newa during playback to keep the server up and I am not planning on adding this. However if WOL is enabled x-newa web client should send a WO when you exit playback to set the resume point.

On restarting after pause it runs for about 30 seconds on the already downloaded data then WOL is called as the data runs out.

If it becomes a pain I will enable SmartPower and try to tweak some of the options so it no longer thinks the server is busy when it is not so preventing sleep sometimes.

The software does take over some of the "Sleep" functions from Windows but I will have to be careful in case it interferes with NextPVR stopping Windows sleeping during a recording.

To tell you the truth I don't know what you are expecting to achieve. The backend sleeps because it doesn't think anything is happening because nothing is. It is no different then if you turned off the client. If the file share is on the server or you are using http mode timeouts will happen. To me it sounds like you server sleep time is more aggressive than you want it to be.
