I get the error message: "Cannot start recording service on computer: System Component Model Win 32 exception. The system cannot find the path specified."

I don't know what this means.

Also, when I run live TV I get the error message, "Cannot communicate with recording service."

What does this mean? I don't even get the schedule (all entries marked unknown) from epg.

What am I missing?

Did you install to the default location? ie "C:\Program Files\NPVR" / "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR", or are you on another drive?

This is saying the recording service is not running. Run the Windows 'Services' control panel, and try starting the 'NPVR Recording Service'.

What EPG source are you using? There is no decent broadcast EPG in North America, so most people in that part of the world use Schedules Direct.

The NPVR is installed in C:\\Program Files (X86)\NPVR.

The Windows Services says "Automatic", yet when I try to start it says: Error 3: The system cannot find the path.

These are the two files installed in the folder EPG on the C: Root: mc2ml.dat and xmltv.xml.

And one more thing: When I scanned the device I got the following results: and I am not even sure they are tv channels (they seem to say radio when I look for details):

Do you have a "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\NRecord.exe"?

These aren't created by NextPVR. It sounds like you're trying to use mc2xml to generate xmltv files to feed NextPVR. For most people mc2xml stopped working back in July, when Microsoft change their backend EPG server (which mc2xml depends on). If you want to use these with NextPVR, you'd need to make sure your xmltv really contains current listings. You'll probably find the xmltv.xml is either empty, or has listings from back in July.

It's fairly normal to get names likes these when scanning QAM (digital cable) in the US. Unfortunately cable companies are not required to transmit the channel names (or channel numbers, or tv listings etc), and they very rarely transmit any of this info. So that app can tell there is a channel there, but has no way to know what channel it is.

I did, and the black screen comes and goes so fast that it's impossible to tell what's on it.

Yes; you're right. the xmltv.xml file is empty. So is there any other way to create a schedule?

Yes, that's the problem. The cable is Comcast cable. The device is ATI All-in-wonder HD Tuner 650. It's recognized and only the QAM gives these channels. When I was using the NPVR before with the converter box I didn't even get these. So, I removed the converter box. Now, this is the result.

Is there anyway out of all this mess?
