For the first time last night I had an opportunity to test the new recording logic that will record a show at a later time if it conflicts with something else. In my case this was S02E02 of the Librarians getting bumped to a later time because it conflicted with The Walking Dead. I had noticed earlier in the week that there were multiple entries for the second episode of The Librarians in the upcoming log, but I decided not to do anything about it and see what happened. Two things happened:

1- I got 10 files of that episode of the Librarians all created at the same time.
2- those 10 files were not in the location specified by the series recording. They were instead in the default directory (which I don't use).

The recording itself looks fine. I moved one copy to the correct location and fixed my Kodi library and now everything is fine. I guess next time I see this about to happen I'll go delete all the duplicate upcoming recordings and see if that helps. I've attached my NRecord.Log for the recording.

Just disable that option for now. We've got a few fixes for this feature in the next release.

I just wanted to followup that the update did help part of the problem. An Alternate recording due to conflict now creates only one recording, but it still records to the default location rather than the location specified in the original recording. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until after the logs had rolled, so I'll have to wait until the next time I have a conflict to pull logs for you.

Post the logs if it happens again and I'll take a look.

as the one who largely championed that feature (though it does nothing for me) and did much of the testing, I'll admit it never occurred to me to check that usage scenario because I simply don't ever specify a recording destination. the alternate recording is an entirely new recording based solely on the unique_id of the conflicting recording; the only aspect of the original recurring request that is respected is the channel, and then only on the first attempt. the logic will need to be updated to bring the recording destination of the original recurring recording over to the new alternate scheduling attempt.

Here's the NRecord log file from yesterday. I have both The Expanse and Born This Way set to record from my Haupauge HDVR (i.e. one tuner), and they both show originally at the same time. Born This Way has a higher priority, so The Expanse properly finds an alternate time and records, but the recording ends up in my default recording directory rather than the one I specified in the recurring recording settings for The Expanse.

BTW, I record to a non-default directory because I use Kodi and don't want my Kodi sources to have random files in them (like the LiveTV recording buffer) that might accidentally get scrapped. So I have a recording directory for TV and one for Movies and set my recordings accordingly. It might not be the best way, but it does work for me. Wink
