Would like to see a pop-up that appears when the user presses Ctl-k to begin recording the channel currently being viewed. The pop-up would allow the user to select the length of time to record and not just to the advertised end of the show. A simple box could be used and filled in by the user specifying how many minutes the recording should be. I suppose one could call it and a streamlined manual record. Or something...

Why? What end are you trying to achieve?

I can give a couple of use cases.

1) Say I am watching a hockey game live (which I do a lot) and it is exciting but likely going to overtime I know I have to leave before the end of the game. I know it will extend past the scheduled end but I want to catch the whole game. What I have would have to do now is ctrl-k and then go to the guide and record the next show.

2) I have some on-demand channels that by nature don't have an EPG so the duration is completely bogus depending on when I start recording. Currently I use other software because I need to navigate and pause using the STB remote set the duration start recording and unpause.

Thanks, Martin. You nailed it concerning VOD(video-on-demand) recording. That was my primary reason for the request.

You also touched on the need for a way to extend a recording after it has started. It would be nice to nudge the end-time to keep the recording in single file. Maybe hitting ctrl-k while the show is already recording can result in a dialog asking how much to extend the current recording.
