Hi,

I tried to record last nights episode of "Haven". While the file seems to be the correct size, it won't play. The file seems to be corrupted. I have attached the logs. Is there anything that can be done? How do I avoid this in the future? I guess I am stuck watching on demand with the commercials!

Thanks!

I'm guessing the file is encrypted. We've seen this a few times in the past, when cable companies have changed a copy-freely channel to copy-once. If you don't think that is the case, I'm happy to take a look the file, and tell you what is wrong with it.

I can watch live tv on the station (SyFy) without any issues. Could they make just one just encrypted? How would I get the file to you to look at - it is pretty large.

I hear they can do it on a per-show basis if they want. I don't know if they really do though.

You'd have to put it somewhere (like dropbox or one drive or something), and supply the download link. You could probably use CutChunk to grab a 100MB so chunk if you want something smaller.

I can't even access the file to look at the properties. I just get the spinning wheel. I tried a few different viewers (I don't have vic), and all of them give errors when trying to open the file. I think the file is badly corrupted.

sounds like an i/o error then, you may have a disk problem

If it's encrypted, then you'd have no problems looking at the file properties, but it wouldn't play in anything.

If its a corrupted file, then you'd typically also have no problem looking at the file properties. Playing it you'd like see hear/see some bits, but probably broken audio/video - how much would depend on how corrupt.

If you can't view the file properties, then it doesn't sound like the file is corrupt. It sounds more like you've either got permission problems, or (as johnsonx43 suggested) you've got disk problems.

Scandisk reported no problems on the drive. I am just going to delete the file (hopefully!) and move on. Thanks for the advice!
